Robert Sheehan Reveals the Worst Celebrity He’s Ever Met

Robert Sheehan – our beloved Klaus Hargreeves on the Netflix original The Umbrella Academyhas been gaining critical acclaim and social media attention for his portrayal of a drug-addicted super sibling.

While it’s been pretty smooth sailing for Sheehan since The Umbrella Academy premiered, his experiences with industry professionals have not always been just as peachy. During an interview with Vice, Robert Sheehan discussed his journey to stardom, and some of the people he has met along the way.

When asked about the worst celebrity he’s ever met, Sheehan answered:

“John Hurt was pretty bad. I know it’s pretty terrible to besmirch the memory of a dead man, but he was really rude to me. I was in a bar in Soho with Ron Perlman – talk about a Hollywood story, baby! – as we’d just watched this film we were both in called Season of the Witch and, well, I was assured John Hurt was very nice when he was sober, but he was going through a period when he was drinking wine. Ron was going for dinner with him and he invited me and a friend to join. We all sat down with John, and then he was fucking horrible to me. I don’t want to tell you the details though, because he’s dead.”

Considering Sheehan spared the interviewer (and the general public) the gory details, out of respect for a man no longer with us, Hurt must have said some pretty hurtful things (pun intended). Can’t resist an obvious dad joke.

Who Is John Hurt?

John Hurt was an English actor with over 50 years of stage and screen experience at the time of his death. Considered one of Britain’s finest actors, Hurt starred in several critically acclaimed films. From The Elephant Man and Alien to 1984 and V for Vendetta, you have likely seen multiple movies with this man front and center.

Though never winning an Oscar, John Hurt did receive the Golden Globe Award in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in the 1978 film Midnight Express. Hurt also won the BAFTA for his lead role in David Lynch’s The Elephant Man in 1981.

Though a legendary performer, it appears the man left his manners at the door once he had a few cocktails and met Robert Sheehan. However, as the saying goes, there are two sides to every story.

Robert Sheehan and Ron Perlman in ‘Season of the Witch’

Season of the Witch – with a whopping 10% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes – is not one of Sheehan’s finer moments; however, he was not the driving force behind the film. Season of the Witch premiered in 2011 with Nicholas Cage in the title role.

The story follows Behman (Nicholas Cage) and his friend Felson (Ron Perlman) who are hired to transport a witch to a remote abbey, where her powers will be wiped away. They must endure a perilous journey across Europe, which was ravaged by the Black Plague during Behman’s absence.

Robert Sheehan plays Fay. Fay accompanies Behman and Felson on their journey and is merely an eager, young man determined to help in any way he can.

At the time Season of the Witch was released, Robert Sheehan was starring as Nathan Young on the UK series Misfits. Playing a character that many have compared to Klaus Hargreeves, it appears that Sheehan has quite the knack for the darkly comic personas.
