Robin Williams’ Son, Zak, Honored His Late Father By Naming His Son After Him

There will never be anyone like Robin Williams. The late comedian could make you laugh on a dime, could do impersonations like no one else, and just had this magnetism that made it impossible not to love him. Years after his death, he continues to bring light into the lives of millions through his movies and standup routines.

While Hollywood has done several tributes to the actor, none are quite as meaningful than the ones from the actor’s own children.

The death of Robin Williams is just one of those things that people still can’t believe, even years after the comedian took his own life. Throughout the course of his career, Williams became one of Hollywood’s most loved actors.

Williams got his start on Can I Do It ‘Til I Need Glasses? But his big break came when he played the lead role in the comedy Mork and Mindy. Williams found enormous success and was beloved by fans for his roles in hits like Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, and Good Will Hunting.

The comedian was open about his struggle with drugs, alcohol, and depression. The actor went to rehab several times over the course of his career and talked about his struggle to always be “on.”

Sadly, no one knew how much Williams truly struggled. The actor took his own life in 2014. After his death, it was revealed that Williams had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and also had Lewy Body dementia. Williams’ wife later said that she believed that it was his health issues and not his struggles with depression that led him to take his own life.

His oldest son remembered his father with the birth of his own son

Robin Williams had three children, Cody, Zak, and Zelda. On May 22, 2019, Zak welcomed his first child with his fiancee Olivia June. The couple paid tribute to Zak’s father, naming the child McLaurin Clement Williams. McLaurin was Robin Williams’ middle name.

Zak, who is a mental health specialist, has previously talked about the regrets that he has surrounding his father’s death.

In Dave Itzkoff’s 2018 biography, “Robin,” the eldest son said be regrets not spending more time with his father.

“…I think that was a very lonely period for him,” he said. “In retrospect, I feel like I should have been there, spending time with him. Because someone who needs support was not getting the support he needed.”

The late comedian’s younger son paid tribute to him as well

Robin Williams was deeply loved by his children. This is evidenced in the way all three pay tribute to their father. The actor’s youngest son, Cody also celebrated a big event recently. Cody Williams married Maria Flores on July 21, 2019. July 21 would have been Robin Williams’ 68th birthday.

Zelda, who also pays tribute to her father every year by stepping away from social media, recognized the occasion and remarked on how difficult the past few July 21sts have been.

Taking to Instagram, she shared that she has a new reason to be happy on July 21st. In her post she wrote, “The 21st of July has meant many things to me over the years. It’s the birthday of one of my favorite souls still on this earth, @junotemple. It’s the day Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon (as a space nerd, that’s pretty damn important). And it was the day my Dad was born, and the last day I got to see him.”

She wrote that the loss of her father has made celebrating the day hard, but added that she once again has a reason to celebrate the day, “On the 21st of July, 2019, it became the day I officially gained a new sister! To @mariaaafloresssswilliams and Cody, you are a light in all of our lives. I’m so grateful to have paid witness to your love over the years, to have watched you grow and care for each other in ways we should all be so lucky to experience.”
