Royal Family: Does Prince Philip Like Meghan Markle? Inside Their Relationship

When you marry someone, you don’t just marry that person, you wed their entire family. So, it’s important that before you say your “I do’s,” you win over your significant other’s loved ones.

For Meghan Markle, that was a tall order. Not only was she marrying into a foreign family, she was marrying into a royal one, as well. And now, over a year since Markle and Prince Harry wed, people are still wondering if she’s been legitimately accepted into the family.

Here’s a look at her relationship with Prince Philip.

Markle won Philip over with research

Before meeting someone that you want to impress, researching the person is always a good idea. Markle knew this and took a special interest in Philip’s heritage.

“Meghan asked a lot of questions, about Philip’s side of the family and his connection to Greece,” the Express reported of the two’s first time meeting.

A source revealed to the outlet that Prince Harry may have helped Markle with some of the details about his grandpa.

“Was she told to say that by Prince Harry? I don’t know. But she got really involved in the conversation.”

According to the outlet, Marle and Philip seemed to bond really well.

“The Duke of Edinburgh really got on with her.”

The source added that the reason that Philip took to the Duchess of Sussex “was because she was very bold.”

Birthday wishes to the Duke of Edinburgh

Since the royals never really come out and say whether they are feuding with one another or not, a great way to tell who is on the outs with each other is by looking at subtle clues. Who stands closest to who, who mentions who the most, who wishes who a happy birthday, and so on.

Prince Philip recently celebrated his 98th birthday and Markle and Harry were quick to wish the royal a happy day.

“Wishing His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Sir, Grandpa a very Happy 98th Birthday! 🎂,” the couple captioned two pictures posted to their Sussex Royal Instagram account.

Does Prince Charles like Markle?

While Prince Philip was an important person for Markle to win over, Harry’s father, Prince Charles, was also someone who she needed in her corner to make her transition to being royal easier.

But luckily for Markle, Charles has taken a liking to her, as well.

A family member told Vanity Fair that Charles is now “closer to Harry than ever,” and that the Prince of Wales is creating a “lovely relationship with the Duchess.”

The Duke of Sussex attends the ‘Our Planet’ premiere at the Natural History Museum with The Prince of Wales and The Duke of Cambridge, lending their joint support for the protection of our environment. As president of @africanparksnetwork, The Duke of Sussex continues to advocate for the communities and wildlife that coexist in some of the most vulnerable environments around the world. Be it human wildlife conflict or natural disasters, these communities (park rangers, school children, families) are on the frontline of conservation and we must do more to help them as we also work to safeguard the animals and landscapes that are in critical danger. A few recent photos that look back on: Prince Harry’s long time commitment to this cause as well as a glimpse into the work he and The Duchess of Sussex did in 2017. Their Royal Highnesses travelled to Botswana to assist Dr. Mike Chase of Elephants Without Borders in equipping a bull elephant with a satellite collar. Approximately 100 elephants are poached/killed every day for their ivory tusks. Using satellite technology allows conservationists to track their critical migratory patterns and to protect them and the local communities from human wildlife conflict. The elephant pictured was sedated for just 10 minutes before he was up and back with his herd. Tracking his movements has allowed conservationists to better protect him and other elephants and ensure heightened protection for these beautiful creatures moving forward. Photo credit: PA, Image 1

“The wedding was a real turning point,” the source added.

“Charles showed so much love towards Harry and Meghan, and I think Harry will be eternally grateful to his papa for stepping in and giving Meghan’s hand in marriage. The bond between them is very close.”

And since Markle’s relationship with her own father has been shaky, Charles has taken his role as father-in-law very seriously.

“Charles has been very supportive of Meghan and everything she is going through with her own father. He’s got a real soft spot for her and thinks she’s the best thing to have happened to Harry.”
