The Royal Family Hated That Meghan Markle Was Able to ‘Outshine’ Prince Harry, Source Reveals

For years, the spotlight was on Prince Harry and Prince William. The brothers grew up on the global stage and following the tragic loss of their mother, Princess Diana, every move they made was watched by the British press and public.

Though it took him some time to propose, royal fans were thrilled when Prince Willam found love with his college sweetheart, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Since the pair were in a relationship for nearly a decade before they wed, the duchess got a lengthy course in royal life. When Kate and the prince wed in 2011, she and the brothers became a delightful trio.

However, when Prince Harry found love with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex in 2016, eventually tying the knot in 2018, it was a different story. The former actress came with her own level of intrigue and celebrity. It was something the royal family had never seen before and was unable to grabble with.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a very modern marriage

When the Duchess of Sussex married Prince Harry, she was already fairly well know and established. In her mid-30s, this was her second marriage and she was not about to let her voice or identity be wiped away.

“It is easy to see that Meghan is not looking for Harry or this marriage to complete her,” relationship expert Sami Wunder told “She may have given up her Hollywood career due to royal protocol but the woman continues to keep herself busy and involved with several charitable interests and even flew all the way to New York to enjoy her baby shower with her own set of personal friends. She is not going to be the woman that looks up to Prince Harry to fulfill each and every one of her needs, as many first time married women would do.”

For the prince’s part, he’s absolutely smitten with his wife. After losing his mother in such a tragic way, he’s determined not to let history repeat itself.

“Harry’s number one priority is to make Meghan happy, and he’ll do everything he can because he feels guilty that he did not do enough to protect his mother,” royal expert Angela Levin told Newsweek. “It stayed with him, so he’s determined to make Meghan happy. I think he adores Meghan. He thinks she’s absolutely wonderful.”

Kate Middleton and Prince William have a very traditional marriage

In contrast, Kate and Prince William’s marriage is much more traditional. They’ve modeled their life in many ways after Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Since they’ve been together for nearly 20 years, Kate also has a deep understanding about royal life, She was able to define her identity within the royal fold.

“They have different roles, but they come together as a team,” a royal insider explained to People. “They are a great double act. People make much of William giving the big speeches, but Kate is there too, asking questions of presidents and their wives. These things are easier when they are side-by-side. They look after each other but in different ways. Some people might say it’s an old-fashioned marriage, but it seems to work.”

Meghan Markle has the ability to outshine Prince Harry

Though royal fans and the press seemed determined to make the Fab Four happen, Meghan and Kate are too different. Since the Duchess of Sussex is so warm and charismatic she was often able to outshine her husband and her in-laws.

As a result, she became the subject of a ton of backlash and misinformation. The royals did very little to combat it. “While Kate’s support of her husband over the years has been admirable, it’s immediately clear how this model wouldn’t work for Meghan and Prince Harry,” SheKnows reports. “For one, Meghan came into the relationship with celebrity of her own, and a global fan base. Whether or not her intention had been to “outshine” Harry, the public was inevitably more interested in her actions than Harry’s at various turns — a reaction that was likely ill-received by the royal family.”

In the end, it appears that the Sussexes had no choice but to leave royal life.
