Prince Harry Went Directly Against the Queen’s Request by Announcing Megxit

The royals are getting rebellious… or at least Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently announced that they were stepping back from their positions as senior royals and absolutely shocked the world.

The British monarchy hasn’t had this kind of shake up in years. After a tumultuous few months, including Prince Andrew having to step down from his duties as a royal due to his connection with Jeffrey Epstein, this announcement was the last thing that the royal family needed and Queen Elizabeth knew it. In fact, she reportedly tried to discourage Prince Harry from making his announcement.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer senior royals

Prince Harry and Markle took to Instagram to announce their news.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” the couple captioned a photo of the two of them together. “It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.”

“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.” – The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”

The Queen told Harry not to step down

Before Prince Harry announced that he and Markle would be stepping down, he told the Queen, who was reportedly not happy about the whole thing.

“The queen is devastated by the decision, although she had been aware of their struggle the last few months and has been concerned for their well-being and happiness,” a source told Entertainment Tonight.

“Many family members were very disappointed with the Sussexes,” the source continued.

When Markle and Harry left for their Christmas break, there had been talks of the two taking on a lesser role in the family, but nothing had been decided.

“Nothing had been signed off, nothing had been decided upon, and the idea was that it was going to be developed, talked about, a strategy would be worked out and then an announcement would be made, but the Sussexes appear to have completely jumped the gun here and by announcing this statement on their Instagram page and essentially on their terms,” royal expert Katie Nicholl said. “I think that is what has led to a sense of betrayal at the palace, a sense of anger, possibly even fury on the queen’s part. What’s understood is the queen had personally asked Harry not to make any of this public until it had been agreed, signed off, and properly discussed.”

Ultimately, the rest of the family is upset with the news.

“I think there is a feeling of deep disappointment behind the palace walls,” Nicholl said. “Private devastation. I was told it is how the senior members of the royal family are feeling. Prince William, Prince Charles, the queen have said to be incredibly disappointed, privately devastated, and very upset with how the Sussexes have chosen to announce this news that they are stepping down as senior members of the royal family.”
