Royal Protocol Kept Prince William and Kate Middleton Separate From Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Their Latest Public Outing

Prince William and Prince Harry were kept separate during a recent royal engagement, their first following the Duke of Sussex’s confirmation of a feud between him and his older brother. The separation only fueled the feud talk, though there may have been a good reason why they kept to themselves — and it all comes down to a little bit of royal protocol.

Why did Prince William and Prince Harry stay separated?

Prince William and Prince Harry made headlines when they attended the Festival of Remembrance over the weekend. Their wives, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, also joined them for the occasion along with other members of the royal family.

Royal watchers fully expected the Cambridges and Sussexes to mingle at the event and put on a good face for the cameras. That, of course, did not happen as the Fab Four failed to make a showing.

According to Express, the real reason the couples did not get together was that the royals have strict rules regarding seating arrangements. The rankings within the royal family dictate where everyone sits, which is why the couples were so far apart.

“They were sitting very, very separately and that’s to do with the order of succession and level of importance, really,” Russell Myers, an editor for the Daily Mirror, shared.

As second in line to the throne, William and Middleton sat near Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. Harry, who is sixth in the line of succession, was pushed to the rear of the balcony alongside Markle.

Prince William and Middleton cause a stir on social media

Following the event, Prince William and Middleton shared photos from the engagement on social media. The photos they shared, however, did not feature Prince Harry and Markle, who were just outside of view.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also shared an image from the outing, though the picture they posted included Prince William and Middleton.

William and Harry, meanwhile, were later spotted laying down wreaths at the Cenotaph in honor of servicemen and servicewomen who have laid down their lives for their country.

Although the brothers attended the same event, they were not spotted talking to each other in public. It is unclear where the two stand following Harry’s recent admissions, but royal insiders say William was caught completely off-guard by his interview.

Prince Harry confirmed feud with Prince William

In a new documentary, titled Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, the Duke of Sussex all but confirmed that his relationship with Prince William has been through some ups and downs over the past year.

Harry explained how the pressures of living under the spotlight will always lead to tension, though he did not reveal exactly how the feud started in the first place.

After saying that he and Prince William are on different paths, Prince Harry admitted that they do not visit each other nearly as much as they used to, mainly because their schedules are too busy.

Although the admission confirmed the feud, Harry added that he will also love his brother and that most of their fights are not anything serious.

“But, I love him dearly and, you know, the majority of the stuff is created out of nothing,” Harry revealed. “Just as I said, as brothers, you know, you have good days, you have bad days.”

Prince Harry makes a public appearance with Prince William

While things have been better between Harry and William, the brothers recently made their first public appearance together since the documentary aired. Prince Harry and Prince William attended several events for Remembrance Sunday, though they were not spotted interacting in public.

Harry did, however, make headlines for wearing his poppy pin differently than anyone else in the royal family. The Duke of Sussex wore the poppy pin on his Royal Marine cap, but it was hard to see because it was pinned above his ear. Other members of the family, however, wore the pin on their lapel.

The reason Harry attached the pin to his cap is because that is how it is done in the Royal Navy. As it turns out, Prince Harry was simply following orders.

Markle and Kate Middleton were also at the event, though the couples did not have time to make an appearance together.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, meanwhile, are scheduled to visit the United States later this month. The two are taking their son, Archie Harrison, along with them to see Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, in time for Thanksgiving.

Prince William, meanwhile, is heading out on a solo royal trip to Kuwait and Oman.
