A Royal Source Reveals Why the Royal Family Always Keeps Quiet Amid Ongoing Rumors
The royal family has always kept a hushed tone about anything going on in their personal lives. Even in the midst of ongoing rumors, which are almost always circulating about one thing or another, the family continues to stay silent. But one royal source reveals there is a reason for the family’s choice to ignore the tabloids — and it’s not because they don’t care.
The royal family hardly ever addresses controversies within their circle
Through the years, the family has been plagued with ongoing rumors relating to almost every single member. When Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage crumbled, they were at the center of the press, with constant rumors circulating about what was happening inside their relationship.
Fast forward 20 years, and the same thing happened again with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship with other royal family members. Plus, Prince William was caught up in affair rumors in 2019. But one thing all of the scandals had in common is that they were hardly ever directly addressed by the royals.
Meghan Markle reportedly struggled with the family’s rule about staying silent
When Meghan married Harry, the rumor mill started. There were stories about how Meghan was allegedly rude to Kate Middleton’s staff and how the duchess was nicknamed “Duchess Difficult” for sending emails to her team at 5 a.m. She also reportedly made Kate Middleton cry during a dress fitting for Princess Charlotte.
Of course, Meghan never made public comments about any of these stories, as it was the royal way to not say anything. But a source recently revealed that the duchess was angry with the family’s “no comment” approach while she watched her reputation grow worse among the public.
A royal source says the family refuses to give rumors ‘oxygen’
According to People, recent court documents showed that Meghan didn’t feel she had the ability to come to her own defense over the accusations made by British media tabloids. And one source says it’s because of the royal family’s approach to handling rumors.
“The palace teams are faced with the difficulty that when things go wrong… Quite often any action taken with the media makes it worse,” the source said. “It’s not that the royal household doesn’t want to help — more that they don’t want to make it worse by giving a gossipy story more oxygen.” It makes sense that the royals would choose not to address the rumors; if they do, they’re letting the tabloids know that they’ve broken a barrier.
There have been a few notable moments when the family has spoken out
When issues come to light that are extremely serious, the royals have been known to comment. When Meghan first reported being harassed by the media while she and Harry were dating, the family did release a statement asking for her privacy. And when Prince Andrew was found to have a long past with Jeffrey Epstein, the royals released a statement relieving him of his royal duties.
Prince William made a brief comment about the affair rumors, saying there was nothing to them, but he never released any statement nor did the family formally address the story. It seems to be that the smaller rumors, though no less hurtful, are the ones that get left alone.
