The Royal Staff Was Concerned This 1 Photo Of Queen Elizabeth Would Bring The Monarchy Down
We know that the British Royal Family has quite the flair for drama. In fact, though we think Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s candid ITV documentary: Harry and Meghan: An African Journey makes them more likable and relatable — it has sent the royal staff into a tizzy. Rumors have it that the royals are at their wits end with the Sussexes, and it’s forcing the duchess and prince to consider the United States as their second base.
When you think about it — though they’ve made strides towards modernity —the British Royal Family is still very much steeped in tradition. As the Sovereign Monarch, no one has upheld that image of rigidity and regalness more than Queen Elizabeth II.
Despite her colorful suits and hats and her sly wit that is rarely shown to the public, for nearly 70 years, we’ve watched the queen direct her family with a stiff iron lip — even amid the scandals that have broken out amongst them. Therefore, when the queen posed for one particular picture a few years ago — the royal staff was convinced the monarchy would crumble.
Queen Elizabeth posed for a photo with her hands in her pocket
If you’ve watched Netflix’s The Crown then you know how unyielding it can be to live in the British Royal Family, especially in the past. Though the queen has surely earned everyone’s respect by now, there was a time when she agonized over every choice she made. However, in her wiser years, the queen is doing what she wants.
According to her longtime dresser, Angela Kelly –Queen Elizabeth decided she wanted to pose for a photo with her hands in her pockets. It’s something she’d been wanting to do for years, but she finally went through with it at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The photo sent the royal staff into a full-blown meltdown
Kelly writes in her memoir, The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser, and the Wardrobe that the queen had been desperately wanting to do an informal pose in a photograph for years, but she was shot down by the Queen Mother and staff.
However, Kelly said she took it upon herself in 2012 to finally grant Her Majesty’s wish. She recalled asking herself, “If I might have a wonderful opportunity to make the Queen’s wish come true.” As she posed the queen.– the photographer was apparently horrified and questioned the wisdom of it to which Kelly replied, “No, Barry, this is how we are going to do it. Just keep the camera rolling.”
Queen Elizabeth was thrilled with her photograph
Since she’d been wanting to pose casually for so long, the queen jumped into her pose with gusto. Kelly explained,
Her Majesty took her position in front of the lens and started striking a series of poses, slipping her hands in and out of her pockets and placing them on to her hips, mimicking the stance of a professional model. I stood in disbelief, the Queen was a natural.
Who doesn’t love a good pocket moment?
