How ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Hides Easter Eggs in Almost Every Recent Episode of ‘Untucked’
Girl, if you’re not watching Untucked, you’re only getting half the story. RuPaul’s Drag Race gives fans a “behind-the-scenes” look at the competition, thanks to the spinoff series featuring the contestants. There’s plenty of drama and even some hidden props for fans to soak in.
Here’s what contestants (and producers) do to keep the background interesting.
‘RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked’ airs directly after new episodes of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’
Whether it be Shangela’s “Sugar Daddy” speech, Brooke Lynn Hytes making a pillow fort, or the contestants laughing with Miley Cyrus, Untucked’s held a few special and quotable moments for RuPaul’s Drag Race fans.
This series went from premiering on YouTube to premiering directly after new episodes of the original competition series. Some episodes of Untucked even included cameos from the celebrity guest judges. When Lady Gaga appeared on season 9, she headed backstage to personally give the queens her critiques.
When U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was a judge, she went backstage to offer words of encouragement and support. Leslie Jones, as a Drag Race superfan, was just excited to spill some tea with the contestants.
There’s plenty of props from the main challenges hidden in ‘Untucked’
Since Untucked switched sets, a number of contestants left props, shoes, and accessories scattered in the background of this spinoff series. On season 11’s Untucked, fans could find the posters used during “Trump: The Rusical,” promoting “Hillary 2020” and “Michelle 2020.”
This wasn’t an accident, though. RuPaul encouraged fans to vote at the end of each Drag Race episode, with some of the contestants holding up posters that read vote.gov. On season 12’s Untucked, the “Stormy 2020” poster still appeared in the background.
Untucked for season 12 also included a giant “Shade” button, which, whenever Jan hit, played the iconic rattlesnake sound synonymous with RuPaul’s Drag Race.
This season also included a giant poster in the background that read “Queerleading Tryouts.” This was an Easter Egg from another spinoff series created by RuPaul, Secret Celebrity Drag Race.
This spinoff series even earned a few Emmy nominations
RuPaul’s Drag Race and its host earned a few Emmy Awards since its premiere. Although RuPaul introduced Untucked a few seasons after its debut, this spinoff earned Emmy nominations for Outstanding Picture Editing For An Unstructured Reality Program and Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.
For the spinoff series, RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars, there’s no need for Untucked because the contestants are the ones deliberating who will be sent home. Still, some fans look forward to this “unscripted” and unfiltered look at the competition.
Episodes of Canada’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK are available on the streaming platform, WOWPresents Plus. Some episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked are listed on the WOWPresents YouTube Channel.
