There were a few iconic moments this season of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’
It wouldn’t be RuPaul’s Drag Race without drama. This season, according to some critics, lacked a certain amount of spark that the show has. Reviews by The A.V. Club called some episodes “rough,” saying that with such a large cast, it’s hard to focus in on certain contestants.
With the entire cast returning for the makeover episode, only to leave again, some believe this episode fell short of expectations. Additionally, some thought contestant Vanessa Vanjie Matteo earned the win this week, turning Ariel Versace into a beautiful, tailored version of herself.
“One of the least satisfying aspects of this episode is Ru’s decision to give Brooke the win over Vanjie,” Kate Kulzick said in her review for The A.V. Club. “The queens in the back weren’t the only ones who expected Vanjie to get her first win. Vanjie deserved it, but even just narratively, it would have been far more impactful to see her hard work pay off with a win after being in the bottom the last three episodes, and lip-syncing in the last two. “
Prior to getting eliminated, fan favorite and big personality, Vanessa Vanjie Matteo, gave another iconic exit. Although she did not make it to the final four, her confessionals and elimination earned her a segment during the finale.
Before the finale aired, RuPaul asked fans on Twitter to vote on who they wanted to win the crown. Yvie’s picture earned the most likes, followed by Brooke Lynn.
Fans say the ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ season 11 snatch game was just ‘meh’
Snatch Game is one of the most anticipated episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race. For season 11, the Snatch Game turned into the “Snatch Game at Sea,” adding another element to the challenge. Unfortunately, the frontrunners of the competition, Yvie Oddly, Brooke Lynn Hytes, and Vanessa Vanjie Matteo, sank instead of swam.
It did lead to what some are calling the best lip sync of the season, between Yvie Oddly and Brooke Lynn Hytes. They battled to “Sorry Not Sorry” by Demi Lovato and neither were eliminated.
“Now imagine if Brooke Lynn Hytes and Yvie Oddly lip-synced to ‘Confident’ instead of ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ … the power that would have !!!” said one Twitter user.
Fans are divided since the ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ s
eason 11 finale
After a lip sync battle for the crown, Yvie came out on top, making her the winner of season 11 and “America’s Next Drag Superstar.” However, Brooke Lynn Hytes and Yvie Oddly had very different track records going into the finale.
Brooke Lynn Hytes had three maxi challenge wins. Yvie Oddly only had one, making her the first winner in Drag Race herstory to have one challenge win. Previous winners had two or more maxi challenge wins. (Technically, in All-Stars 3, Trixie Mattel won two maxi challenges but lost both lip syncs. Place that where you will.) Yvie Oddly’s win resulted in mixed emotions among Drag Race fans.
“[Yvie Oddly] has elevated her drag this entire season and has managed to stay true to herself, remaining odd and unique I’m incredibly proud,” said one Twitter User.
“I’m really gonna need Nina West, Brooke Lynn Hytes, Shuga Cain AND Vanjie to come back for all stars soon cause the queen-
