Russo Brothers Reveal Which X-Men Would Have Survived Thanos’ Snap

The Disney-Fox merger that took place earlier this year has once again reunited the Marvel characters, including The Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four.  This merger means that we could see crossovers of all shapes and sizes in the near future. Quicksilver and Deadpool could appear in future Avengers movies. The Hulk and Black Panther could make an appearance in an X-Men film. The possibilities are endless.

This merger also means that the X-Men were all present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Thanos gathered all of the infinity stones and snapped his fingers. So, who would have survived and who would have been dusted away?

The Russo brothers decide who gets dusted

In IGN’s Up at Noon show, the Russo brothers were asked to choose who would be eliminated by Thanos’ snap out of a group of X-Men characters. The options were Gambit, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Cyclops, and Rogue. Using a marker, Joe Russo crossed out everyone’s name except Wolverine.

“I’d love to see a fiercely motivated Wolverine going up against Thanos,” Joe Russo said. The decision is as thrilling as it is tragic. After all, the snap didn’t exactly evenly halve any group, so, it would be very possible for Wolverine to be the sole survivor of his mutant family. It was a very meticulous decision to spare the clawed crusader.

“It’s not our job to give the people what they want, it’s to give them what they need,” said Russo.

Who else would survive the snap?

The Russo brothers continued to choose survivors from groups of hapless fictional characters. The duo went from the characters from Friends to the members of The Backstreet Boys, picking and choosing who would survive and who would turn to dust. The final contenders all add up to a rather interesting band of survivors to fight against Thanos.

Some of the survivors include the entire gang of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Scooby-Doo, and Nick Carter. Unfortunately, the gang from Friends didn’t survive the snap.

What’s next for Marvel?

With the new merger in place, there will be a ton of exciting developments in place for Fox and Disney. Marvel has an exciting lineup of movies and television shows coming up.

After Avengers: Endgame earned its place as the highest-grossing movie of all time, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige announced the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Natasha Romanoff will be getting her own spinoff film in Black Widow. An Eternals film is on the horizon, starring Angelina Jolie. There will also be a Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali.

Outside of a showdown with Thanos, the X-Men have a lot going on with the upcoming House of X series and its partner Powers of X, which both continue to pose questions about the past and future of the mutants. The film The New Mutants welcomes a group of new faces into the X-Men universe, like Anya Taylor-Joy from Split and Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones. Due to delays caused by the poor reception of Dark Phoenix and reshoots on the film, The New Mutants is rumored to be released on a streaming service instead of the silver screen.
