Ryan Fitzpatrick’s background and NFL career
Born November 24, 1982, Ryan Joseph Fitzpatrick studied economics at Harvard while backing up quarterback Neil Rose during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
He became the starter in 2003 after Rose graduated and had a decent performance as he led his team to a winning 7-3 record. The following year Fitzpatrick was named Ivy League Player of the Year and led his team to a perfect 10-0 record as well as claimed the Ivy League Championship.
The quarterback finished with impressive stats, ranking second on Harvard’s career list for yards passing, pass completion percentage, pass completions, and touchdowns.
In 2005, Fitzpatrick declared for the NFL draft and scored an unbelievable 48 out of 50 on the Wonderlic test, which is an exam all rookies take to measure their intelligence for things including learning and problem-solving abilities.
He still holds the highest score on the test among any NFL quarterback. The St. Louis Rams drafted Fitzpatrick in the seventh round, 250th overall, where the quarterback backed up Jamie Martin.
Two years later, they traded him to the Cincinnati Bengals, where he backed up Carson Palmer until 2009 when he signed with the Buffalo Bills. Despite having his best performance yet as the Bills’ starting quarterback, they released Fitzpatrick in 2013, and he went to the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans, each for a year, before getting traded to the New York Jets.
Again, Fitzpatrick had a strong showing for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, but the Jets voided his contract, allowing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to pick him up in 2017.
There, he received his nickname, Fitzmagic, after he started the Bucs to a great start while starter Jameis Winston served his suspension. In 2019, Fitzpatrick signed with the Miami Dolphins to back up Josh Rosen until he was named the starter in Week 3.

Their names are Brady (11), Tate (9), Lucy (7), Maizy (5), Zoey (3), Ruby (1), and Jake (6 months old).
