Ryan Gosling to Join the MCU as Villain Mangog in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’?
Following San Diego Comic-Con — and Marvel’s spewing of scintillating superhero series and cinematic spectacles set for Phase 4 — theories concerning the MCU’s trajectory, now that Endgame has eclipsed a cultural era, have been popping up across the internet.
From Reddit discussions to Twitter posts, everyone with an ounce of Marvel knowledge has jumped into the debate. However, some people — the best of the bunch — bring an enticing degree of credibility to their arguments. When it comes to leakers you should follow, and sources to keep on your radar, We Got This Covered should be a number one go-to.
In the past few weeks, theories concerning new additions to the MCU have been sprouting up on the daily. Will Henry Cavill leave Superman for the MCU? Will David Morrissey play Galactus, taking what many believed to be a role destined for Liam Neeson? And now, Ryan Gosling in the MCU…as Mangog?!
What we know so far about Ryan Gosling’s possible involvement in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’
The director behind Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika Waititi, and Ryan Gosling met a couple of weeks ago, allegedly to discuss two of Waititi’s upcoming projects: Thor: Love and Thunder and Next Goal Wins.
While several sources reminded viewers that Gosling’s entire conversation could have centered around Next Goal Wins, the remaining characters (who do not align with Gosling’s profile) weaken the argument’s plausibility. Whereas, Thor: Love and Thunder still needs to cast its lineup of baddies and, rumor has it, there will be a handful of them coming to play. Not to mention, a source close to We Got This Covered confirmed that Waititi and Gosling ventured into the world of Marvel during their lunch date.
According to We Got This Covered, a source close to the outlet confirmed that Waititi wants Gosling to portray a supporting villain in the upcoming MCU installment. Whether a deal has been struck remains unknown; however, it’s clear that Gosling has, once again, found himself desirable in Marvel’s eyes. He was nearly the actor chosen to take on Doctor Strange before Benedict Cumberbatch would up with the role.
Why would Gosling appear as Mangog?
The source close to We Got This covered revealed that Gosling could play Mangog; however, whether the villain will even appear in the upcoming Thor movie remains up for debate. If you’re wondering why you should trust this so-called source, the same outlet confirmed that Ewan McGregor would return as Obi-Want and that Black Widow would feature Taskmaster.
While Mangog’s appearance may not be confirmed, Love and Thunder seems like the perfect place to introduce the iconic villain.
Given that this movie will presumably close the God of Thunder’s narrative arc, as Chris Hemsworth passes the hammer and transfers the mantle to Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor, a big bad villain is a must.
Mangog was one of Thor’s greatest foes. And, not only was he one of the most powerful of Thor’s enemies, he recently took on Jane Foster in the Mighty Thor comics; meaning, Waititi may be exploring this plotline in his movie. If Mangog is prepped for a glorius introduction and Gosling is sitting on an offer, Love and Thunder may turn out to be the best, star-studded Thor installment to date.
