Ryan Reynolds Reveals How ‘Deadpool 2’ Paid Homage to ‘Indiana Jones’
It’s been over two years since Ryan Reynolds superhero sequel, Deadpool 2, premiered. And knowing it will be a while before Deadpool 3 is released, the movie star has been taking fans down memory lane through a series of Instagram stories. While reminiscing about Deadpool 2, Reynolds also revealed how one scene hilariously paid homage to Indiana Jones.
‘Deadpool 2’ premiered in 2018
When Deadpool premiered in 2016, it became an instant box office hit. Reynolds’ quick-witted comedic style was a perfect fit for Marvel’s Wade Wilson. And thanks to his performance, and the film’s brilliant writing and direction, it earned over $782 million worldwide and received numerous accolades.
The sequel, Deadpool 2, was released two years later, in 2018. Reynolds and Morena Baccarin reprised their roles as Deadpool/ Wade Wilson and Vanessa. But the film also features other Marvel X-Men characters, including Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand).
Deadpool 2 went on to be even more successful than its prequel, earning over $785 million at the box-office. Plans for a third movie were confirmed by Reynolds in late 2019, but fans will probably have to wait until 2021 to get an official premiere date.
‘Deadpool 2’ was filled with Easter eggs
Deadpool 2 isn’t just great because of its comedy and action sequences, it also has amazing little Easter eggs and pop culture references sprinkled throughout. The film opens with a James Bond-like sequence and song by Celine Dion. And it also features cameos by numerous A-list celebrities.
In one scene, where X-Force member Invisible jumps out of a plane and gets electrocuted, Brad Pitt’s face flashes on the screen for just a few seconds. The actor was reportedly in talks to play Cable in the movie, but after facing scheduling conflicts, he agreed to make this brief cameo.
There is another scene in the film where Deadpool is sitting on a pickup with two truckers. While its hard to tell with all their makeup, one of the truckers is actually Matt Damon, and the other is Alan Tudyk.
Ryan Reynolds reveals a scene from the movie that paid tribute to Indiana Jones
In a recent series of Instagram stories, Reynolds took a look back at Deadpool 2. He tagged various stars in their cameos and shared behind-the-scenes clips. The actor also revealed the one scene from the film that was meant to pay homage to Indiana Jones.
It’s actually easy to miss because it comes at the beginning of the movie when Deadpool is running toward Dopinder’s (Karan Soni) taxi. There is an angry mob running behind him as he screams, “Start the car!” and jumps into the cab through the window.
As revealed by Reynolds, this shot was an homage to a scene from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, where Indy (Harrison Ford) is running from an angry mob after removing an ancient temple idol. “Start the engine!” Indy yells as he runs toward his escape plane.
Of course, this is just one of the many Easter eggs in Deadpool 2. Hopefully, Reynolds will continue to take fans down memory lane, and unearth more fun facts about the beloved superhero film.
