Salma Hayek Reveals What It’s like to Get a Secret Phone Call from Meghan Markle
It was recently revealed that Meghan Markle guest-edited the September issue of British Vogue. Many women were highlighted in it including Salma Hayek. The actress revealed what it was like to get a secret phone call from Markle and more.
Meghan Markle was a Guest Editor of the Septemeber issue of British Vogue
The new mother has been away from the public eye after giving birth. However, she released an exciting secret project by being the Guest Editor of the Septemeber issue of British Vogue.
The issue highlighted all kinds of women that are pushing for equality. She revealed in a letter that she wrote editor-in-chief Edward Enninful about doing the project.
“I asked the question,” Markle revealed in a letter. “Edward… Instead of doing the cover, would you be open to me guest editing your September issue?” She claimed he was elated by the idea and they reached out to women to be part of the project.

The actress revealed that Enninful called her. That’s when he told her to not to say the duchess’ name.
“I was in the car and he said, ‘Listen, I’m going to put somebody on the phone. Are you in the car with people?’ I said ‘Yes.’ He told me ‘you cannot say the name of the person I’m calling.’ Frankly, I thought it was a joke,” she told CNN.
She continued, “And we are also very good friends with Naomi Campbell. And I thought, they’re pulling my leg or something, you know? I said, ‘Oh, she’s in London and he’s gonna pass me to her,” Hayek then said, “But then it took a while for the other person to get on the phone. Then she got on the phone and introduced herself.
Hayek said Markle was loving and easy-going as she talked about the project
It sounded like Hayek and Markle hit it off as they talked about working the Vogue cover. Hayek talked about the royal’s personality and passion.
“She introduced herself and was very kind and loving and easy-going,” she revealed. Hayek later said, “She explained her passion for women and what’s happening currently. And then she said she’s doing this with British Vogue. She said, you know, she was the guest editor of British Vogue, and I’m thinking maybe it’s going to be an article on what we’re doing, you know, with Kering and women, and she said no, ‘I’m [doing a cover], I’m not going to be the cover, I’m putting my favorite women on the cover. And you’re definitely one of them. You one of the first ones.'”
Hayek revealed how she felt about the honor. “I was like completely shocked. I did not see it coming that way. She started talking about how she’s been watching me and why me.”
Hayek didn’t just have to keep their phone call secret. She also hid her photoshoot secret from her husband, daughter, and publicist.
