‘The Crown’: Actresses Who Would Be Perfect to Play Sarah Ferguson
Season 3 of Netflix’s The Crown may have only premiered yesterday on Nov. 17, 2019, but we’re already looking ahead to future episodes of the show thinking about who would be the perfect actress to play Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson, Duchess of York. Continue reading to get our picks plus who the royal herself supposedly wants to portray her in the series.
Set in the 1960s with an entirely new cast led by Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Season 3 of The Crown arrived nearly two years after fans of the series watched Claire Foy round out her time playing the leader of the British monarchy with the end of Season 2.
Headed toward the more recent past, namely the 1980s, with the introduction of Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, Season 4 will likely mean a glimpse of Ferguson. But who will play her?
We could see Golden Globe-winning actress, Amy Adams, portray the Duchess of York during the 1990s and 2000s covering the royal’s divorce from Prince Andrew and scandals including the infamous toe-sucking incident that a biographer claimed to be a set up.
The 45-year-old has demonstrated her range with an impressive resume of acting roles featuring roles in children’s movies (2007’s Enchanted), dramas (2010’s The Fighter and 2013’s American Hustle), and more.
Remember Bree from ABC’s Desperate Housewives? We thought Marcia Cross executed the role perfectly and we’d love to see her portray the Duchess of York in The Crown.
The 57-year-old demonstrated her versatility playing a seemingly straightlaced housewife and we can’t help but think she’d shine embodying Ferguson on screen. Since the ABC drama went off the air in 2012, Cross has predominantly starred in TV roles, according to her IMDb page, but none have achieved the same level of success seen by Desperate Housewives.
Another actress we’d love to see take on the role of Ferguson? Emily Blunt. We certainly know her comedy and drama skills are up to snuff considering her performances in The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and A Quiet Place (2018) which won her a Screen Actors Guild Award.
And after taking on the iconic role of Mary Poppins in the footsteps of Julie Andrews, what can’t Blunt do?
Actresses Ferguson may want to play her
Ferguson herself is said to have an idea about who she wants to portray her in upcoming episodes of The Crown. While they’re not confirmed, a source told British publication, The Sun, the 60-year-old has not one but two actresses in mind to play her in the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning series.
The first being 27-year-old Eleanor Tomlinson of Poldark for her younger years.
The second, 58-year-old Academy Award winner, Julianne Moore, for her later years.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not Ferguson will be featured in Season 4 or make her debut in later episodes. For now, we’ll have to watch Season 3 and wait for Season 4’s release date to be announced along with more details.
