Sarah Ferguson Has Reinvented Herself Amid Quarantine and Prince Andrew’s Scandal
Sarah, Duchess of York is perhaps one of the most fascinating modern royals of our time. When the duchess married Prince Andrew in 1986, her red-hair and fiery personality made her a favorite amongst fans and the royal family.
Though she and the late Princess Diana were very close, the princess later revealed that she envied Sarah’s gusto and the way that she tackled royal life. Unfortunately, the Duchess of York’s popularity in the royal family waned quickly. In 1992, the duchess was photographed topless with another man. It led to her divorce from Prince Andrew and an ousting from the royal family.
Though Sarah and Prince Andrew have managed to remain close, in 2010, she was caught on camera by a journalist who offered her $500,000 for access to the royal family. It further soured her relationship with the royals. Now, a decade later the spotlight is off of Sarah and on her ex-husband. The duchess has used this time to reinvent herself with royal fans.
Sarah Ferguson has defended Prince Andrew’s character
Prince Andrew has found himself in the middle of the biggest royal scandal of the decade. The Duke of York’s friendship with late sex-offender, Jefferey Epstein, is being called into question after Epstein’s suicide in the summer of 2019.
The prince has also been accused of sexually abusing a then-underaged girl. Though the duke has adamantly denied any allegations, he did defend his friendship with Epstein which led to him being ousted from royal life permanently. He’s also reportedly refused to cooperate with the FBI. Sarah has praised her ex-husband’s character in the face of these allegations.
“It’s incredibly difficult,” she told Vogue Arabia. “To see such a wonderful man go through such enormous pain…He is the best man I know. It’s just incredible what he has done for Britain, and it’s all nonsense [her voice raises as she alludes to the Epstein scandal], so I talk about familyhood, and I’m very strong about it.”
Sarah Ferguson has her own ties to Jeffrey Epstein
The duchess has been accused of overlooking and dismissing the claims of survivors who endured Epstein’s abuse. She also has her own ties to the late financer. In 2011, he helped her pay off hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.
Confronting her own ties to the convicted sex offender, Sarah released a statement. She said,
I deeply regret Jeffrey Epstein became involved in any way with me. I abhor pedophilia and any sexual abuse of children and know that this was a gigantic error of judgment on my behalf. I am just so contrite I cannot say. Whenever I can I will repay the money and will have nothing ever to do with Jeffrey Epstein ever again. What he did was wrong and for which he was rightly jailed.
Sarah Ferguson has spent the last several months reinventing herself
With so much going on, Sarah, who is no stranger to scandal, has spent the last several months planning her daughter, Princess Beatrice’s secret wedding, and reinventing herself.
The duchess has also launched her new charity, Sarah’s Trust. “Like a sort of wonky Phoenix, rising from the flames of Andrew’s car crash Newsnight interview, Fergie appears to have turned a crisis into an opportunity by using the lockdown to reinvent herself,” royal expert Camilla Tominey told The Telegraph.
By using her time to read to children, donate to frontline workers, and let fans into her everyday life, the duchess as earned a cult following from people who are very much into her authenticity.
