Sarah Jessica Parker Hates Doing This 1 Thing That Her ‘Sex and the City’ Character Loves
It’s easy to believe that Sarah Jessica Parker is exactly like her famous Sex and the City character, Carrie Bradshaw, given that she did such a beautiful job of embodying that role. But they really don’t have that much in common.
Over the years, Parker has repeatedly pointed out the differences between her and her iconic character — from their fashion style to their life choices. More recently, she revealed that she hates to do one thing that the shoe-obsessed relationship columnist loves, and it’s something that would honestly make Bradshaw stumble in her Manolos.
The thing Parker hates that Bradshaw loves
During the week of Oct. 20, Parker appeared on Fifi, Fev & Byron on Melbourne’s 101.9 The Fox, where she revealed that she and her Bradshaw don’t share the same shopping habits.
In the beginning of a clip shared to the show’s Instagram page, Parker admitted that she’s not as much as a shoe fanatic as Bradshaw. “I mean, nobody’s relationship with shoes, I think, can compare with Carrie’s,” she said. “And, I don’t say that in a judgmental way — that’s one of her great passions.”
She went on to say that she pretty much finds shopping to be anxiety-inducing. “I’m not a crazy shopper,” Parker admitted. “Yeah, I haven’t been for many years. I mean, I think I used to be a little more so. But shopping sometimes can give me anxiety, like, I feel bad. … Like, I buy something and I’m like: ‘Oh, do I really need that? Will I want that in five years? Is that gonna look good on me in five years?’”
It’s a shocking revelation for many reasons, one being that Parker has her own shoe line. Also, she’s constantly serving fashion inspiration on the red carpet or on her Instagram page.
But, again, it’s not the first time that Parker has pointed out differences between her and Bradshaw.
She told BuzzFeed in 2015: “I think there’s not a lot about Carrie that is actually similar to my life. Our choices have been so radically different. There are certain kinds of pillars that fundamentally are different. I like clothing, but I don’t have anywhere near a fevered relationship that she does.”
Things Parker and Bradshaw have in common
Parker admitted on the radio show that she has adopted Bradshaw’s hoarding habits, which confuses her husband, Matthew Broderick.
“I keep thinking like, ‘Oh what about when I retire?’ which Matt is like, ‘We’re never going to retire,'” the actress explained. “But I ‘ll be like in my closet like, ‘I should definitely keep that sweater because when I retire, when I’m in Ireland.”
She also told BuzzFeed: “I think in many ways I’m like Carrie because I would much prefer to be interviewing you, for instance. I’m very curious about other people, and that’s why I like the subway. Because I can just watch people. That’s why I like stoops — so I can just watch people. And that’s why I like cities. And I love this city, and I have a fondness that is kind of hard to explain to people.”
But, for the most part, the similarities between them are slim.
