‘Saturday Night Live’: Did Scarlett Johansson Interact with Colin Jost During Her Hosting Gig?

Saturday Night Live fans were in for a treat during the most recent episode.

Scarlett Johansson has had a great year, personally and professionally. In 2019, the actress starred in the most successful global release of all time in Avengers: Endgame. Plus, she has earned rave reviews for two critically lauded films, Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story, both of which are major Oscar contenders.

But Johansson also got engaged to SNL co-head writer and Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost. So when it was announced Johansson would host SNL for the sixth time, fans wondered whether she or Jost would acknowledge their romance on the air. The answer just might surprise you.

Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson’s romance

First off, let’s put Johansson and Jost’s romance in context. The pair met in 2006 when Jost was a writer on the show. Over the years, Johansson and Jost would cross paths when she’d appear on the show, though nothing came of it.

Their relationship wasn’t official until December 2017. Yet, Johansson and Jost reportedly began dating in May of that year, just two months after the actress’ fifth hosting gig. Since then, Johansson has made a couple of on-screen appearances on SNL as Ivanka Trump.

Her December 2019 episode marks her first time returning as host since her relationship with Jost became official. The couple got engaged earlier this year. But despite Jost’s weekly appearances as co-host of Weekend Update, his relationship was rarely acknowledged during the show. Until now.

What went down on ‘Saturday Night Live’ last night

Johansson wasted no time pointing out the metaphorical elephant in Studio 8H. During her opening monologue, Johansson said she was a lot more relaxed during her sixth time as SNL host because “if the show’s bad, what are they going to do, fire [her] fiance?” Then, she joked about her own big-screen success, “Oh, no, what will we do without his paycheck?”

From there, the monologue transitioned into an Avengers parody, with half the cast disappearing into ash. Jost hurriedly approached Johansson to let her know he hadn’t faded away, though she seemed hilariously underwhelmed by his survival. Kenan Thompson’s Nick Fury then recruited Johansson’s help, leading to the the reveal that cast member Pete Davidson was toying with the Infinity Gauntlet.

Having convinced Davidson to bring everyone back for Christmas, Johansson eventually returned to the stage with the entire cast. She revealed how much the show means to her, especially because she met the “love of [her] life” there. As the show went to its first commercial, Johansson and Jost kissed and embraced in a very sweet moment.

What is the status of their wedding plans?

The happy couple make have had a brief opportunity to share the SNL stage. But fans excited for Johansson and Jost’s upcoming nuptials might have to be patient. It could still be a while before the pair finally ties the knot.

Johansson and Jost got engaged in May 2019, as the actress discussed on Ellen earlier this year. Yet, we haven’t heard anything since then regarding an anticipated wedding date. As Johansson has revealed in the past, the actress’ schedule is likely to blame.

Her career is white-hot right now, after all. In addition to her three 2019 releases, Johansson’s long-awaited Black Widow movie hits theaters in May 2020. Maybe once the press tour for that Marvel project is complete, she and Jost can set aside time to finally make their love official.
