Season 3 of ‘The Crown’ Sort-Of Has a Release Date
There’s light at the end of the tunnel for fans of The Crown waiting for Season 3.
When will Season 3 of ‘The Crown’ premiere on Netflix?
Although the streaming service didn’t reveal an exact date for the premiere — sorry fans — they wrote in a letter to investors after their first-quarter financial earnings were released, that The Crown would launch after July 1, 2019.
“We’re looking forward to a strong slate of global content in the second half of the year, including new seasons of some of our biggest series,” Netflix also said in the letter.
Fans have been patiently awaiting the show’s return and were let down when new episodes of the show didn’t hit Netflix during the holiday season of 2018.
If Season 3 followed the pattern established by Seasons 1 and 2 of the show, new episodes would’ve been available for streaming just before Thanksgiving and Christmas of last year.
Season 1 premiered on November 4, 2016, with Season 2 following the next year a little more than 13 months later on December 8, 2017.
Unfortunately, the show didn’t keep up with releasing a new season every year.
However, it’s safe to say Season 3 of The Crown will be available on Netflix in November of December of 2019, a year later than fans might have expected.
Based on previous episodes of the show, the third installment of the series will be well worth the wait.
Who is starring in Season 3 of ‘The Crown’?
Unlike other TV shows, The Crown’s cast changes regularly. Season 3 of the show found the entire cast being replaced because the show follows the family over the course of decades.
Oscar-winning actress, Olivia Colman, will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy, 35, who played the leader of the British monarch in Seasons 1 and 2.
“It’s a very hard act to follow,” Colman said in an interview about playing Queen Elizabeth II after Foy.
Tobias Menzies of Outlander will play Prince Philip, Ben Daniels of The Exorcist will play Lord Snowden, and Helena Bonham Carter will play Princess Margaret as the 1970s versions of their characters.
Season 3 marks the introduction of Camilla Parker Bowles to the British royal family’s story with actress Emerald Fennell (Call the Midwife) taking on the role.
Prince Charles will be played by Josh O’Connor and Allied’s Marion Bailey will play the Queen Mother.
Will Princess Diana be in Season 3 of ‘The Crown’?
Princess Diana will not be introduced in Season 3, according to Nina Gold, the show’s casting director.
“Diana’s not in this season,” but “when we do get to her, that is going to be pretty interesting,” Gold told Vanity Fair.
Season 3 of The Crown is said to start in 1963.
Princess Diana (Emma Corrin) is slated to appear in Season 4 of the series, according to The Crown‘s official Twitter page.
We suggest getting your fix of The Crown by watching Seasons 1 and 2 until Season 3 premieres later this year.
