‘Secret Invasion’ Star Emilia Clarke Made Her Very Own Comic Book, and It’s Amazing

Emilia Clarke is easily one of the most recognizable faces in the entertainment business. She rose to prominence while playing a lead role in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, but has since ventured into work with other franchises.

Clarke recently confirmed that she will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022’s Secret Invasion. The unreleased Disney+ series is based on a comic book of the same name and is currently in pre-production.

Interestingly, aside from starring in the adapted comic book series, Clarke has also created a comic book of her own.

Clarke discussed the comic book during a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon.

“So it was just a silly idea,” she said. “It was a silly conversation that happened in a car on our way to a gig with friends. “And we were like, ‘Yeah, wouldn’t it be funny if there was a superhero who wasn’t perfect, and who was just a big mess like us?’ And I was like, ‘That would be really funny.’ And was anxious, that would be really funny.”

She wrote virtually all of the comic book on her own

After getting a burst of inspiration, Clarke ended up writing down a bunch of ideas for M.O.M.: Mother of Madness, her comic.

“And then I went home and just wrote that,” she said. “So I wrote like 50 pages of this, and this kind of character just came out of me. And I did all the other characters and just a lot of — there was a lot of material that was ready to come out. And now it’s here and it’s a real thing.”

Emilia Clarke relied on an extensive team to bring it to life

Even though Clarke came up with the concept for M.O.M. on her own, she worked with a large team of people to ensure that she was developing a quality product.

“So now I know that there’s a lot of people that are involved in making a comic,” she said. “There’s like 11 people that it takes to make a comic, and I teamed up with this incredible writer called Marguerite Bennett, who was my guru and my guide ‘cause I didn’t know the first thing about making a comic.

All of the time and effort that Clarke put into developing M.O.M. shows. In the interview, it’s easy to see that she’s proud of what she made.

“And so I wrote all the stuff and then she turned it into comic, turned it into this thing, this beautiful thing,” she said.

She’s not against turning the comic book into a movie

When asked if she plans on making her comic into a film, Clarke didn’t rule out the possibility.

“So here’s the way I feel about this. It’s not why I started, it’s not why I made a comic,” she said. “I made a comic ‘cause I’m crazy, and so I did that. And if it’s really crap and no one wants it, then it won’t be a movie.”

The release dates for Secret Invasion and M.O.M. have not yet been revealed.
