Selena Gomez tells fans ‘your voice matters’

Gomez took to her Instagram Story in hopes of getting more of her followers to the polls.

“I know that many of you have voted, and I’m so proud and I am so happy that you did, but there is plenty of people that haven’t and I don’t think they plan to,” she explained. “So please don’t use mail-in ballot. Please vote in person at this point if you can, especially in my hometown like Texas and Pennsylvania and Florida. Your voice matters.”

Gomez continued, “So many people think that it doesn’t matter, but other elections have been this close before so you have to understand that your voice does matter and it’s so important.”

“Please, please vote in person,” she added.

Selena Gomez voted for the first time this year

Gomez is a first-time voter this year, as she recently explained why she didn’t exercise this right in the past.

The singer shared her story on Instagram about why she couldn’t vote during the previous election.

“I can be brutally honest. I was dealing with a lot of mental health issues and I didn’t get the opportunity to vote,” Gomez explained. “That was really difficult for me, but that actually put a fire under me to be more active than I’ve ever been, and to never miss a beat and to make sure I take time to do that. So as hard as that is to admit, it’s something that I’ve learned a huge lesson with.”

During an Oct. 29 chat with Kamala Harris, Gomez explained why voting is so important to her. “To be honest, I think in the past when I was younger I wasn’t very educated with the voting process. The past four years, I’ve experienced a lot. And I feel my vote counts more than ever,” she explained.

Gomez continued, “As a citizen, as someone who truly cares about their country, not voting is just not an option.”

“It’s really encouraging to see more and more young people come together for it because we are the ones that are going to trail blaze and we are going to be the next wave of people that truly are going to decide our future and I plan on doing everything that I can to help and to just also encourage people to vote,” the singer noted.

Gomez also explained in the Instagram caption, “There is too much on the line this election for anyone to sit on the sidelines. We all must use our voices and vote.”
