Lose You To Love Me

“In two months you replaced us like it was easy / Made me think I deserved it in the thick of healing,” are easily two of the most vulnerable lyrics from Gomez’s new song. Many fans are thoroughly convinced that the lyrics refer to Justin Bieber moving on to his now-wife, Hailey Baldwin, just months after their break up. But, this could also potentially refer to her relationship with The Weekend. Unfortunately for Gomez, this is something that happens with frequency in the entertainment industry. But, Gomez has learned to lean into her artistry in order to cope with the complex emotions that accompany seeing an ex move on so fast in such a public way.

Gomez’s explains her new song lyrics

“Yeah, I think, you know, I’m really grateful too because I’ve actually experienced that a million times before, and that’s the unfortunate part about what I do,” Gomez shared candidly. The Wizards of Waverly Place alum continued to share why she felt the need to express her feelings in this manner especially given the time that has passed since she experienced her heartbreak. “So it’s all very real to me, and I’m sure it’s just entertainment for other people, but I think I had become numb to it, and it would be stupid of me if I didn’t acknowledge what I had felt because it would be inauthentic, and that’s everything I claim to be and do,” Gomez shared about the new song on the radio show, On Air With Ryan Seacrest.

Despite the fact that Gomez is one of the most recognized celebrities in the entire world, she believes that the feelings and vulnerability that she expresses in her new song are universal. Gomez has always been able to connect with her fans through the use of emotion, and the feelings displayed in “Lose You To Love Me” are no different. The song truly runs the gamut of emotions, but the beauty truly comes at the end when Gomez seems at peace with everything that has happened.

Gomez is focused on herself

“I know there are thousands of people, men and women, who have felt this feeling, and it’s extremely real. And on top of the social media and everything, it doesn’t matter if you’re in my position or if you’re in someone [else’s], because you’re always going to somehow find this negative space. That’s why I have to be careful, and I just have to take steps back and just focus on what I’m doing and no one else,” the actress shared. It’s great that Gomez was able to take care of herself and now she feels comfortable releasing her vulnerability to the world with her new song. We can’t wait to see what’s next for the talented performer.
