Selena Gomez Reacts to Feedback From Her New Song; ‘It Shocks Me’
It’s been a phenomenal week for Selena Gomez. When she dropped her new song, “Lose You To Love Me“, fans could not have predicted that’d she’d drop a second single only 24 hours after her first. The reaction to her new music has been, for the most part, overwhelmingly positive. Still, there has been intense scrutiny regarding what, or rather who, Gomez is referring to in her latest singles. The dissection of each and every lyric is so intense that it even managed to shock Gomez, despite being in the spotlight for more than half of her life.
Fans think Selena Gomez’s new song is about Justin Bieber
Within hours of releasing “Lose You To Love Me” fans and critics alike had compiled countless lists of all the ways, they felt, Gomez was referring to her past relationship with Justin Bieber in the new song. Gomez and Bieber had a highly-publicized, at times volatile, on and off relationship before Bieber married his wife, Hailey Baldwin. Of course, things quickly escalated when Baldwin (perhaps inadvertently) added fuel to the fire with an ill-timed Instagram story post.
Hailey Baldwin is accused of threatening Gomez
No sooner did Gomez debut her new song, did Baldwin post a potentially shady message to her Instagram story. The story included a screenshot of a song called “I’ll Kill You” by Summer Walker featuring Jhené Aiko. Naturally, many people were quick to assume that Baldwin was attempting to threaten Gomez for speaking about her husband, Bieber. Later, Baldwin claimed that she was, in no way, attempting to threaten Gomez. “Please stop with this nonsense… there is no ‘response’. This is complete BS,” the model wrote.
Gomez uses Instagram live to deliver a message to fans
But despite Baldwin issuing a clarifying statement, the vitriol of hate continued. Things got so bad that Gomez felt the need to hop on her Instagram live and urge fans to be kind. “I am grateful for the response that the song is getting. I’m so grateful. However, I do not stand for women tearing women down. I will never, ever be by that, so please be kind to everyone. Please, for me, know that that’s not my heart. My heart is only to release things that I feel — that are me, and that I’m proud of. It doesn’t matter what the situation is, if you’re my fans don’t be rude to anybody, please. Don’t go off and say things that you just feel in the moment,” the 27-year-old songstress implored fans.
Why the singer is shocked by the reactions to her new song
Things have died down a little since Gomez made that ask of her fans, but the “Me & The Rhythm” singer is still floored by how much of a reaction her song has already inspired. “It actually shocks me. Some of the reactions I feel like shocks me in general because I’ve dealt with this for years now. Because everyone writes about something they felt, everyone. And the biggest topic is love and, in a way, it’s not something negative it’s something positive that I was able to experience something that was as beautiful and ugly as it was. I think it’s beautiful that I was able to turn this into a new chapter,” Gomez confessed in a recent interview with On Air With Ryan Seacrest. We completely agree with Gomez there, and we can’t wait to see what else this new chapter holds for her.
