Selena Gomez Reveals How She Got Through Her Toughest Times

The new era of Selena Gomez is in full effect and fans could not be more excited. Her new songs “Lose You To Love Me” and “Look At Her Now” are exactly what we’d expect from the 27-year-old singer. The songs are packed to the brim with honesty, vulnerability, and grace; three characteristics that have defined Gomez for well over a decade. “Lose You To Love Me” is especially raw, because it chronicles a period of time where Gomez was undergoing great pain and personal turmoil. But other than music, how did Gomez manage to get through her hardest moments?

In a recent interview with one of her best friends, Raquelle Stevens, Gomez got candid about all the ups and downs she has experienced in the last several years. Gomez confessed that in order to get through moments of great personal hardship, she has had to deepen her spirituality and her personal relationship with God. But she also relied on her friends and family and those who love her most. “Definitely my faith for sure. But it’s also the people I surround myself with. So I feel those are two very important parts,” the “Love You Like A Love Song” singer shared with TaTatu.

Practicing mindfulness

Gomez has been very candid about her struggles with mental health, specifically depression and anxiety, and she admits that she finds therapy to be an important tool for achieving strong mental health. But aside from therapy, the actress finds it super important to be mindful of who and what you’re giving your attention to. This is why she is such a strong proponent of cultivating healthy and honest friendships and why she has such a restricted relationship with social media. “I’m a big advocate for therapy of course, but it’s also just about what you’re listening to and what you’re watching. It’s very important to be mindful of that,” the Revival artist confessed.

Gomez then continued the conversation further discussing how her faith has helped guide her through the most challenging moments of her life. The singer admitted that it took her some time to fully understand how spirituality could help her navigate the hard moments. But once she did, it became essential to her healing process.

Understanding her spirituality

“I think once I started to really understand my spirituality, and believing in something much bigger than myself was very important for me. Because I don’t believe that I can do this life alone. I know that we’re not perfect. I know that what I read in the Word that I live in is all kinds of stories of pain and trials and redemption and restoration, so I believe that so much,” Gomez shared. The “Rise” singer then went on to again sing the praises of her friends. “But it’s my friends too. You guys help me through a lot of it and you walk through most of it with me,” the actress added.
