Selena Gomez Reveals Why She Waited So Long To Release New Music
They say good things come to those who wait and Selena Gomez’s new music was definitely worth the hype.
The singer recently released two of her most vulnerable and raw singles to date and while many of us are over the moon that she did, Gomez revealed that this music was close to four years in the making.
During a recent interview, Gomez opened up embracing her vulnerability and shares why now was the perfect time for her to release new music.
Gomez admits that she’s in a much different place now than she was before
Earlier this week, Gomez surprised fans by releasing not one, but two, self-love anthems that perfectly outline finding oneself after experiencing difficult times.
While many of us can see why the singer decided to deliver tracks as open and honest as “Lose You to Love Me” and “Look at Her Now” at this exact moment, it turns out these songs have been a work in progress for the past few years.
During a recent appearance on On Air with Ryan Seacrest, the singer revealed why she held off on releasing her new music until now.
“It’s been four years since I’ve been working on this album and it’s actually perfect timing because I was going to release it two years ago and none of the words that I’m speaking would have existed,” she explained.
With all of the emotional hardships Gomez has experienced these last few years, she admits that it took a while for her to embrace her vulnerability.
But after reflecting on her past and finding herself again, the singer is now stronger than ever and it definitely shows in her music.
“I feel a sense of relief. I wrote this song over a year ago … and I feel completely different from when I wrote it,” she said of her self-love track, “Lose You to Love Me”. “It’s more beautiful for me because I know exactly where I was when I wrote it and how I felt.”
When asked if she could have released this song at the time she wrote it, Gomez said “absolutely not” then revealed that it took her a “long time” to heal from her heartbreak.
She’s learned to embrace her vulnerability
After ending her on-and-off-again relationship with Justin Bieber in 2018 and seeing hime quickly move on with someone else, it took a while for Gomez to find happiness again.
Although she is aware of the ongoing negativity surrounding musicians who use love and heartbreak for the inspiration behind their songs, Gomez didn’t let that stop her from getting ultra personal in her music.
“That’s the unfortunate part of what I do. It’s all very real to me, and I’m sure it’s just entertainment for other people,” she shared with Seacrest. “I had become numb to it, and it would be stupid of me if I didn’t acknowledge what I had felt, because it would be inauthentic. I know there are thousands of people, men and women, who have felt this feeling.”
Just like in her songs, Gomez admits to moving on with her life and shares that her upcoming album will shine a light on just how far she’s actually come.
While she didn’t reveal a release date for her untitled album, the singer is confident fans will respond well to the songs she has in store for them.
“All I know is that these two songs were me wrapping up a chapter in a pretty little bow, and the rest of the album is just all about where I am now and where I’m going,” she said. “In my opinion, these are great songs, but I’ve saved the best for later.”
