‘Sense8’ Fans Will Love This Phase 4 MCU Film

Sense8 fans spanning the globe — yet apparently not in numbers large enough to sustain its continued production — are still grappling with the realization that the groundbreaking sci-fi series that once graced Netflix is no longer. The Wachowski Sisters, the visionary minds behind The Matrix, introduced a socio-politically relevant show while retaining its intricate narrative and sci-fi intentions. Can the MCU carry out a similar goal?

At its core, Sense8 was about connection, family, love, and the binding features that work to prove we are all more similar than we are different. However, never straying too far from action and suspense, the series traced eight individuals — connected via thought and action — as they took on a mega-corporation destined to bring about their destruction.

Sense8 was a unique and important series, featuring multiple LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as actors from countries around the world. The series provided a platform and a voice for groups under-represented in Hollywood, without ever resorting to overtly cliche — often condescending — tropes. While it may be a long time until fans ever receive a movie or show to rival Sense8 — in terms of vision, importance, and scope — an upcoming Marvel movie may help fill the void…just a little bit.

Why ‘Sense8’ fans are bound to love Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’

Sense8 relies upon the mental connection between its eight leads to develop the series; without their shared thoughts and actions, the series ceases to have a point from which to expand.

Marvel’s The Eternals features a group of cosmic beings — boasting god-like powers and immortality — who band together to protect the Earth from their evil counterparts, the Deviants, as explained by CinemaBlend. How does this relate to Sense8, you ask?

The Eternals all share a mental bond with one another. The Eternals are able to form an entity called the uni-mind; according to Fandom, they can use it to merge into a singular mind or communicate telepathically.

The immortal saviors work to shape the history of humankind and all of its civilizations, ensuring that the balance of power never veers to the dark side. If you please, you can look at The Eternals as your eight members, and the Deviants as the evil corporation, the BPO. While this may be a bit of stretch, Sense8 fans are bound to enjoy another show featuring saviors that are all connected via the mind.

What do we know about ‘The Eternals’ so far?

The Eternals will hit the silver screen as part of Marvel’s Phase 4 in 2020 and is coming to the table with quite an impressive cast. From Angelina Jolie and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) to Salma Hayek, Richard Madden (The Bodyguard), and more, the cast already has MCU fans on the edge of their seats. The Eternals is also set to star Marvel’s first openly gay character, which is a major accomplishment for a franchise that has too steadily followed heteronormative tendencies.

As of now, IMDb has the following description listed for the plot: “The saga of the Eternals, a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history and civilizations.” While this leaves much to the imagination, we can assume that the MCU will alter comic book lore, as it often does; however, the uni-mind is an integral aspect of their story, and one not likely to be amiss.
