Seth Rogen Met Prince Harry and Meghan Markle And Hilarious Recalls The Royal Protocols He Had To Follow

When meeting anyone from the royal family, of course, that is a huge deal.

Whether you are famous or not, just being in the presence of a royal can seem unreal at first.

That is exactly how Seth Rogen felt meeting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during the UK premiere of the live-action remake of The Lion King.

While it was a surreal moment for him, Seth Rogen recently shared the not so exciting details of getting the royal protocols down pat before meeting The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Meeting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was really awkward for Rogen

The past week was pretty eventful for the cast of Disney’s latest live-action remake of The Lion King.

Aside from the film’s well-awaited release, the star-studded cast also had the surprise of their lives when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended their UK movie premiere.

While these celebrities were very much star struck to be in the same room as royalty, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, who play Timon and Pumbaa in the film, recalled the meeting pretty awkward.

While sitting down with UK’s This Morning, the actors shared exactly what it was liking meeting The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in person and also shared the long list of protocols everyone had to follow.

“You’re given a lot of protocol to follow, which is unusual,” Rogen shared.

This Morning‘s host Ruth Langsford then joked about the no kissing the royals rule which the comedian responded with, “Yeah, exactly, respect their personal space. They’re the only people I’ve met that come with protocols so that was interesting.”

He continued, “And then I think what we were trying to gauge is how many people were following the protocol and how strict the protocol is.”

Rogen co-star, Billy Eichner, then goes into in-depth details of the rules the entire cast was asked to follow while in the presence of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“Like Seth said, they tell you you’re supposed to say ‘your Royal Highness,’ you can’t speak until your hands are locked together in a handshake and all these crazy things, and I didn’t know how much you were supposed to follow that so I started panicking,” Eichner said. “We were watching what our friend Keegan (Keegan-Michael Key) did and he ended up doing none of the protocol either and just kind of nodded his head, then it all fell apart.”

Seth Rogen’s main concern was doing something wrong

While it was nerve-wracking for Seth Rogen to meet Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in person, the actor shared that he was most afraid of something wrong.

Though Rogen and Billy Eichner were extremely nervous, their main concern was not forgetting to follow royal protocol, which they both believed would lead to consequences.

“I assume you get put in the Tower Of London if it all goes wrong. I’ve got to think of the repercussions. I’d like to come back here one day,” Rogen joked.

As it turns out, both Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner made it threw their meeting with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and didn’t break protocol, from what we know.

A video has even surfaced online of Rogen and Eichner at The Lion King movie premiere giving themselves pep talks before finally met Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

The video eventually made it Eichner and he shared it on Twitter along with tweeting, “OMG Here I am completely freaking out to @Sethrogen about how I’m going to greet Prince Harry and Meghan I’M CRYING.”

While it is hilarious to watch Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen fangirl over meeting royalty, the comedians revealed on This Morning that they didn’t know they were being filmed, which makes the video even more enjoyable.

“I didn’t know we were being recorded at the time, so this is a very real moment of Seth and I waiting to meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle,” Eichner shared.
