Fans Demand an Apology for Stage Conditions After Several Artists Fall During ‘SBS Gayo Daejeon’
SBS Gayo Daejeon is an annual end-of-year broadcast by Seoul Broadcasting System. 2019’s SBS Gayo Daejeon took place on Dec. 25 at the Gocheok Sky Dome. Several acts including Red Velvet, Mamamoo, BTS, NCT 127, GOT7, and Twice were scheduled to perform.
After the broadcast, fans are demanding an apology from SBS after Wendy from Red Velvet fell during rehearsals and suffered major injuries. During the performances, other artists also slipped and fans called out the dangerous stage conditions.
Wendy of Red Velvet fell during rehearsals
SM Entertainment released a statement about Wendy’s injuries. The company explained that during rehearsals, Wendy fell off the stage and suffered injuries to her face and broke her right pelvic bone and right wrist.
“During the rehearsals for her individual performance on SBS Gayo Daejeon, Wendy fell off the stage. Wendy was immediately transferred to the hospital for a thorough examination and it was revealed she suffered injuries to her face, as well as a breaks in her right pelvis and her right wrist,” SM Entertainment wrote in a statement.
The statement reads: “Right now, Wendy is waiting for additional examinations after receiving preliminary emergency treatment at the hospital. We plan to focus solely on treatment, as the artist’s health is our top priority. We will let fans know about Red Velvet’s future schedules as soon as we organize them.”
Fans expressed their anger at SBS
Because of Wendy’s injuries, Red Velvet did not finish recording their pre-recorded performance. SM Entertainment announced their attendance to the live broadcast was also canceled.
On social media, fans expressed their anger that SBS did not issue a proper apology to Wendy, Red Velvet, and SM Entertainment. Fans also wished Wendy a healthy recovery.

Other artists slipped during 2019 ‘SBS Gayo Daejeon’
Unfortunately, Wendy was not the only artist to fall during SBS Gayo Daejeon. During the event and red carpet, fans noticed that several artists fell or slipped while performing onstage.

Fans demand an apology for the conditions at ‘SBS Gayo Daejeon’
On social media, hundreds of thousands of fans demanded an apology from SBS because of the performance conditions. Fans cited that several artists fell while performing or rehearsing, and that SBS did nothing to address the dangerous conditions after Wendy’s injury.

BUT when several others tell you there’s an issue and you refuse to address or acknowledge it, it’s no longer an accident or a mistake. it is unacceptable, irresponsible, and it has put Wendy and other artists in harm’s way. #ReleaseApologySBSGayo,” wrote a Twitter user.
“wendy, minhyuk, jin, solar, taeyong, yeji and jaebum fell and changkyun who almost fell too because of how sbs didnt organize the even well and thats a lot of idols already, we dont want any more idols to get hurt and risk their safety for this show #ReleaseApologySBSGayo,” one fan tweeted.
