Should Tinsley Mortimer From ‘RHONY’ Be in a Rush to Get Married?

Tinsley Mortimer from The Real Housewives of New York City was in the hot (super hot) seat during a luncheon cruise. Mortimer was fresh off hosting her first big event in the city and is in the process of rebuilding her brand.

Mortimer’s event hosting euphoria was quickly squashed when the ladies began to pry into her dating status. She’s been dating Scott Kluth on and off for the past two years and the ladies wanted to know if the couple would marry.

Kluth lives in Chicago and Mortimer is determined to remain in New York unless the couple weds. She gets enough grief about not pulling the marriage trigger yet from her mother and said the women were being almost worse than mom during the lunch.

Mortimer wants children

Perhaps the biggest sticking point is that Mortimer would like to have children. “It wasn’t something I thought I’d be able to do,” Mortimer says when Bethenny Frankel asks if she wanted children. Meanwhile, Ramona Singer injects, “So she saved her eggs.”

Mortimer tells the women she’s 43 years old and Frankel just nods. Frankel was 40 years old when she delivered her daughter Bryn. However, fertility rates decline drastically later in life. Although Mortimer is still in her 40s, the longer she waits, the more challenging it will be to conceive. “The chances of a women conceiving at 50 is not well studied. However, without any reproductive assistance, the chance of spontaneous conception is likely less than 1 percent,” Scott A. Shainker, DO at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA told NBC News.

Which goes back to those frozen eggs Mortimer and her mother famously sobbed over while trying on wedding dresses. A growing number of older women are also having children. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that birth rates rose by 2% for women between the ages of 40 and 44. However, if Mortimer opts for in-vitro fertilization (IVF), success rates for women over age 40 is about 13% to 18%.

Relationship first, kids second

As the women discuss Mortimer’s relationship, she asserts she’s more concerned about getting the relationship secured first. Then she’d worry about having kids. “Do you love each other,” Luann de Lesseps questions.

“I love Scott,” Mortimer says. “You don’t know Scott and he’s not around often. It’s a logistical problem. He lives in Chicago. My brand, my image is connected to New York. That’s what I lost when I went back to Palm Beach. It just doesn’t make sense in Chicago right now.”

Frankel says she feels badly for grilling Moritmer. But then asks Mortimer if she is 100% sure they will marry. “How can anybody be sure about that,” Mortimer says. The ladies all jump in saying they’d be sure and would know.

Apparently there is a ring…

When Mortimer tells the women, Kluth has pictures of the ring he’d like to buy her, they seem weirded out. “What man shows a woman pictures of an engagement ring,” Ramona Singer says in a confessional interview. “Scott knows Tinsley wants a commitment, he’s just playing with her. Or playing with himself!”

But Mortimer insists she’s not making any moves until that ring is firmly on her finger. Plus, what is not discussed is the speed in which other cast members married. Of course there’s the infamous marriage between de Lesseps and Tom D’Agostino. Which practically gave everyone whiplash with how fast they married and divorced. Plus, Mortimer is witness to the painful divorce between Frankel and ex-Jason Hoppy, not to mention Singer’s recent split from her lengthy marriage to Mario.

What about an ultimatum? “I don’t think Scott does well with a threat,” Mortimer says. However, the ladies shoot back telling her this is important and it is about her, not him. She says she has a timeline in her mind, but she’s not laying down an ultimatum. Finally, Frankel just tells her to make sure she’s not settling for less and the women toast to her hopeful future with Kluth.
