Singer Tinashe Faces Intense Backlash After Her Comment About North West’s Performance Sparks Uproar

Tinashe may have thought she was making a joke about North West, but many Kardashian-Jenner fans didn’t find it funny.

The singer recently made a distasteful remark about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West‘s oldest daughter’s Paris Fashion Week performance that instantly became a viral hit.

Though Tinashe claims she wasn’t trying to be malicious, many interpreted her comment as full-out shade and are now criticizing her for going after a child.

North’s performance has caused some drama online

North West just proved that she has musical chops just like her dad.

The 6-year-old recently showed off her rapping skills while taking the stage at West’s Yeezy fashion show during Paris Fashion Week.

As the models walked the runway in the rapper’s latest collection, North performed a song that turned out to be a remix of YouTube star ZaZa’s viral hit, “What I Do.”

Though North put her own twist on the catchy track, ZaZa’s parents weren’t too happy about the lack of shout-out.

On Mar. 2, the aspiring rapper’s parents took to Instagram to politely ask Kardashian and West to give their daughter the credit she deserves.

“In July of 2019, ZaZa & her dad went into the studio for the ultimate experience! To finally begin making the music she wanted to make,” ZaZa’s parents wrote. “What @kimkardashian (Kanye west) are doing with their daughter… with the inspiration of ZaZa & our family in mind is okay… we not mad BUT PLS SHOW LOVE AND SUPPORT TO THE ORIGINAL FIRST!!! We admire Kanye West, and adore his journey. However, we don’t wanna feel like our daughter’s journey in the world of entertainment is being STIFLED.”

Soon after the post was shared, Kardashian West responded by writing, “We love you, North is a huge fan and records in the studio all the time with her dad and is inspired by ZaZa and loves Lay Lay too! Today’s performance of North’s remix of ZaZa’s song was something she asked to do at the last minute and a complete surprise. I didn’t mean to not give credit where credit was due. Would love for the girls to meet soon.”

Tinashe chimed into the conversation

Now here’s where Tinashe comes in.

Amid the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star’s clarification, the “2 On” singer took to the comments under ZaZa’s post, where she wrote, “North West wishes.”

Tinashe’s comment quickly caused an uproar, with many people bashing her for seemingly throwing shade at a child.

“Tinashe talking bout “north west wishes” THAT IS A CHILD….,” one person commented on Twitter.

“The locals are about to drag @Tinashe for that comment she made about north west,” another user wrote.

Even singer Justine Skye, who’s a longtime friend of the Kar-Jenners, showed distaste for the childish remark by writing under Tinashe’s Instagram comment, “You Mad?”

After being widely criticized for her comment, Tinashe took to Twitter on Mar. 2 to defend herself and assure everyone that she was only joking.

“It was a f*cking joke y’all seriously dragging it,” the singer tweeted. “Y’all really acting As if I personally reached out to the little girl like she even on the gram like I’m f*cking sick of everyone being so damn self righteous Plssssssssssss.”

She reiterated her position in a follow-up tweet that responded to a fan who didn’t consider the comment to be funny.

“I swear yall just like to be mad about stuff,” she wrote. “Yes it was a joke, lighten up.”

It seems like many people aren’t going to let Tinashe live her comment down anytime soon.

Though she says it was only a joke, sometimes the art of sarcasm gets lost when using social media.
