Meri Brown’s plural marriage is a sham – at least, that’s what rumors suggest. The 48-year-old mother of one became famous after her family landed a TLC show that chronicled their lives as a plural family. Meri, the first of four wives, has been a fan favorite since the shows induction, but she’s also battled her fair share of controversy. Now, Soap Dirt alleges that the inn-owner is only part of the family for filming purposes; otherwise, she’s left out in the cold. So what led to the breakdown of the family? A divorce, a catfishing scandal and deep-seated resentment seem to be the core issues.
Does Meri Brown still interact with the family?
Back in 2015, Meri Brown revealed that she had carried on an online relationship with an individual she thought was a man named Sam. The busy business lady, however, found out that Sam was not Sam at all. Instead, Brown was catfished by a woman named Jackie, according to In Touch. While the relationship ended when “Sam’s” true identity was revealed, the catfisher has waged war against the reality star since, and it’s taken its toll on the family.
While Kody and Meri have put on a brave face in the aftermath of the cheating scandal, it is rumored that Kody can’t get past Meri’s betrayal, and the pair remain distant from one another. While the couple, who married in 1990 and divorced in 2014 so Brown could marry his fourth wife, has been spotted on the town together, their relationship is just for show, according to sources.
Meri has also faced criticism from her sister wives in the wake of the scandal. While sister wives Christine, Robyn, and Janelle remain committed to the plural lifestyle, it seems as if Meri isn’t particularly interested in continuing the charade.
Resentment continues to build between Meri and Christine
Wife number 1, Meri and wife number 3, Christine have never had a friendly relationship. The two have butted heads from early in the series run and fans strongly suspect the pair despised each other even before the cameras started rolling, but their distaste of one another has come to a head in recent months.
During an interview segment on Sister Wives, Christine told Meri that her poor attitude and misery makes everyone uncomfortable. She went on to say she was perfectly happy not to have Meri around for the birth of the family’s first grandchild.
Meri and Christine are currently on vacation on the same cruise, but the pair are actively avoiding each other. It doesn’t look like the relationship will ever be mended and may be the cause of Meri’s increasing estrangement from the Brown clan.
Would there be a show without Meri Brown?
Rumor has it that there would be no show without Meri Brown, and she merely hangs out with the family during filming days. According to a family friend, Meri is wholly isolated from the rest of the group when the cameras aren’t around. The mother of one has done all she can to distance herself from the family, as well.
Brown has launched a successful clothing business and currently owns a well-received bed and breakfast in Utah. It is possible that Brown is stacking the deck for when the show finally ends, and she walks away from the family. It is also possible that losing one wife would ensure the end of Sister Wives, a financial hit that the family is unlikely to be ready for.
