SM Confirms EXO’s Comeback and Fans Gear Up for the New Album’s Release Date
Can you feel it, EXO-Ls? The kings are back. It’s been months since EXO — including members Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, Sehun, Xiumin, Lay, and Chen — released their fifth studio album, Don’t Mess Up My Tempo, back in November 2018. Naturally, fans have been getting restless. But fortunately, SM Entertainment recently unveiled a bit of important news in regards to the speculated EXO comeback in 2019. And yes, we’d say it’s about time to get excited.
SM responds to EXO comeback rumors for 2019
On Oct. 29, South Korean media reported EXO will release their comeback — in the form of their sixth studio album — in late November 2019, as translated by Soompi. The publication also revealed the comeback will not involve D.O. and Xiumin, as they are both serving in the military.
In response to the report, SM issued an official response via Newsen. However, the company was unable to confirm the EXO comeback release date.
“We are working on a new full-length album,” the SM statement about EXO’s comeback reads, per The Korea Herald. “The exact release date will be announced soon.”
When is the release date for EXO’s next comeback album?
Although SM was unable to confirm the release date of EXO’s next comeback, it seems fans can still expect a new album before 2019 ends, if not by late November. In early October, during a press conference for SuperM, Baekhyun and Kai — who are in both K-pop groups — opened up about EXO’s return.
According to Soompi, Baekhyun assured fans not to worry about the future of EXO with the creation of SuperM. “Our fans worry a lot,” the singer shared. “They say, ‘If you promote as SuperM, are you not promoting with your own respective teams?’ But we’re ‘Super.’ It’ll be difficult, but we will promote with both our teams and SuperM simultaneously.”
Meanwhile, Kai admitted a new EXO album was coming before the end of 2019. “There are plans for [EXO’s comeback] within the year,” he said. “EXO will be EXO, and SuperM will be SuperM. We’ll promote hard in each of our respective groups as well.”
And now, it seems that Kai’s statement may come true. The Korea Herald also informed fans that EXO will come back before 2020. “A report says EXO is releasing their sixth album later next month,” the publication wrote on Twitter. “Our sources also confirmed their return by the end of this year.”
But, of course, fans will have to wait for SM to give the final word.
Fans trend #EXOISCOMING worldwide on social media
Following the news of EXO’s return, the internet exploded with excitement. And in an organized effort, EXO-Ls awakened and made #EXOISCOMING trend no. 1 on Twitter worldwide.
“EXO is coming back to save the music industry,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Hide your faves.”
“Our worldwide kings are coming back and getting ready to serve us some legendary new music,” another fan tweeted. “What are you hoping for with EXO’s comeback?”
Meanwhile, other fans wondered about EXO’s next concept and logo that is bound to come with the future release.
“EXO’s back,” a Twitter user shared. “Who’s excited about EXO’s comeback? I wonder what’s the next logo, they never failed even when it comes to their logo, hmm.”
And while fans seem keen on an EXO royal concept, most EXO-Ls are simply excited for what’s to come. “Finally finally after so long we are getting the news of EXO comeback,” a fan wrote. “I’m so excited new era, new music, new clothes, new hairs, new concept.”
Regardless of what EXO decides and when the next comeback will actually be, it seems fans are just ready to dive into new content after almost a year of waiting. But, if there’s anything we know about the kings of K-pop, it’s that they’ll put on a good show — no matter how long it takes.
