The nominees for the Daytime Emmys have been announced, with soap operas The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, and General Hospital landing the most nominations for the awards honoring the best in daytime television across a huge multitude of genres. While the Daytime Emmys aren’t followed as closely as the prime time awards, partially because they don’t draw as many celebrities, the show does honor a wide variety of popular programs.

The soap operas up for best drama series include The Young and the Restless, which garnered a staggering 26 nominations in total; The Bold and the Beautiful, which followed with 18 nods; Days of Our Lives, which received 14 nominations; and One Life to Live, which came away with seven nominations.

Of course, daytime television is more than just soap operas. In terms of kids’ shows, PBS’ Sesame Street leads the pack with 15 nominations, outstanding pre-school children’s series among them. All of the other shows nominated in the category come from Nickelodeon — Dino Dan, Yo Gabba Gabba!, and The Fresh Beat Band. For kids a little bit older, the shows up for outstanding children’s series include Animal Science, Game Changers with Kevin Frazier, R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Tour, and Sea Rescue.

For those that love to see a good competition on television, there are categories honoring game shows and courtroom programs. The nominees for best game show include The American Bible Challenge, The Chase, Jeopardy!, Let’s Make a Deal, The Price is Right, and Wheel of Fortune. The shows up for best legal/courtroom program are Divorce Court, Judge Judy, Justice for All With Christina Perez, and The People’s Court.

Daytime TV also has plenty of lifestyle advice to offer. Cooking shows up for outstanding culinary program include A Moveable Feast With Fine Cooking, Beer Geeks, Bobby Flay’s Barbecue Addiction, Giada at Home, The Mind of a Chef, and My Grandmother’s Ravioli. Shows up for best travel program include Awesome Adventures, Curious Traveler, Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild, and Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin. Outstanding lifestyle shows that could come away with a Daytime Emmy include America Now, Elbow Room, Home & Family, Home Made Simple, and This Old House.

Some highly popular talk shows air on daytime TV. The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Live! with Kelly and Michael, Rachel Ray, The Talk, and The View are all up for best entertainment talk show. Dr. Mehmet Oz, Katie Couric, Rachael Ray, and the women of both The Talk and The View are up for the best talk show host award.

The networks that came away with the most nominations were CBS with 61, PBS with 44, Nickelodeon with 37, and ABC with 30. Programs in syndication were nominated for 50 awards. The year’s nominations for the Daytime Emmys show that while daytime television may not get the ratings or have the star power of prime time, it is responsible for a diverse selection of TV shows, at least one of which is likely one of your guilty pleasures.
