‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’: Why Fans Already Want a Lando Calrissian Movie

At long last, Solo: A Star Wars Story is upon us. Although the main character is Han, fans can’t stop talking about young Lando Calrissian, played by Donald Glover. It’s to the point that fans are already hoping for a movie starring the character.

But why is there much more desire for young Lando rather than the other characters? We decided to break it down. Here are seven reasons why fans already want a Lando Calrissian movie.

1. There is still some mystery to him

Lando probably has the best introduction to Star Wars over any other character because he is able to trick our main heroes. In the end, he is still able to make us love him by making things right. The franchise is more likely to recreate this aspect of the character because there is still so much mystery to him.

Glover told Deadline:

I feel like people like him ’cause he has a lot of style, but also he’s a complicated character in this world. I think even Han isn’t as complicated as Lando is. From the first time you meet him, you don’t know whether to trust him or not, and you’re constantly not knowing whether to trust him. I like that about him.

Glover is right to say Han isn’t as complicated as Lando. Part of this is because Han is more fleshed out in the series,s and we know his motivator before Leia and Luke was pretty much money. But what motivates Lando and how did he make the change from being a gambler to a leader of an entire city? Hopefully, a stand-alone movie could answer that.

Next: The movie can’t go wrong because of this one thing.

2. The casting of young Lando is too good to pass up

A lot of fans weren’t excited about the casting of Alden Ehrenreich as young Han Solo, and that’s understandable. With Harrison Ford’s version of the character being so iconic, it’s no surprise people can’t see the character played by anyone else. But there was an opposite reaction to the news of Glover as Lando.

Glover can certainly be as smooth and charismatic as Lando, given what we’ve seen of him as an actor and music artist. This is what makes the idea so appealing.

Next: Lando’s political climb gives his character something special.

3. His position as the leader of Cloud City offers possibilities

Unlike Han, Lando goes from being a conman to a leader of Cloud City to part of the Rebellion. That actually sounds like a much more interesting arc, and yet a lot of, it isn’t onscreen. If there is a movie about him, we can see the events that led him from crime to politics.

This has the potential to get trapped in the same the pitfalls of the prequels that were heavily involved in politics. But hopefully, by now we know how to avoid making the same mistakes.

Next: This movie would be great because of Lando’s skills.

4. Lando seems like a much more capable smuggler

Sorry Han, but Lando seems much more capable and, therefore, could be much more interesting to watch in the criminal underworld. The fact that we know Lando becomes legit by going into politics says a lot about him.

A Lando solo movie could also be a little darker than the scenes of Han trying to talk himself out of being caught in a bind.

Next: His story could introduce more villains.

5. His storyline could introduce more new characters

It’s good that the franchise is starting to move away from the characters we know and introduce new characters. It can push this effort even further through Lando, since he would have no reason to know anyone other than Han and Chewbacca in these prequel movies.

There’s also the potential for some more villains to be introduced in the gambling and smuggling world.

Next: Canon won’t be as much of a problem for this reason.

6. Wires likely won’t get crossed with canon

Not only can we get more new characters, but we won’t be tied up in too much canon. The movie would allow audiences to see more of what the world was like before the original series started, without messing up established aspects of the universe.

Next: This is why it would be the most stylish movie yet.

7. Lando is the best-dressed character

Lando is definitely the coolest guy in the galaxy. It might be superficial, but who wouldn’t want to see more of Lando’s attire? Star Wars movies are always a feast for the eyes, but this would be one for a different reason.
