Some Critics Think Meghan Markle Stole Prince Harry’s ‘Fun Side’

There’s no denying that Prince Harry was a different person before he met and married Meghan Markle. But the real question is this: Was his life better before, or did marrying his wife make everything worse?

To hear Meghan Markle’s many critics tell it, Prince Harry should have picked someone else as a life partner. They say the Duchess of Sussex is too political, too serious, too private, and too feminist. They say Prince Harry was happier and more carefree before getting hitched. But are they right? Did Meghan Markle really make Prince Harry’s life worse than it was before?

It all depends on who you ask.

Prince Harry had a reputation as the rebel child

Before getting married and becoming a father, the Duke of Sussex had a reputation as the black sheep of the royal family. He was constantly getting in trouble for partying and drinking among other scandals, like the time he wore a Nazi uniform as part of an ill-advised Halloween costume.

He also dated around though he was with long-time girlfriend Chelsy Davy for years. Royal family fans assumed they’d get married one day. Instead, Prince Harry found a different woman to be with forever.

He spent time as Prince William and Kate Middleton’s third wheel

Right before meeting Meghan Markle and beginning the relationship that would change his life forever, Prince Harry spent a lot of time socializing with his older brother Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton. Though he surely desired a relationship of his own, William and Harry were close, and he seemed to get along well with the Duchess of Cambridge, too.

But then came that fateful blind date. In the summer of 2016, a mutual friend set up Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the two hit it off immediately. They were engaged within a year, married in 2018, and welcomed son Archie in 2019.

Prince Harry acts much different now

So many things have changed since Prince Harry met Meghan Markle. He’s become more committed to certain causes that his wife supports for one thing. Plus, some people think he’s less fun to be around.

One of Meghan Markle’s biggest critics used to be her friend. Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan loved Markle until she ghosted him for unknown reasons. Now he says Markle is nothing but a vapid social climber.

“Since meeting his American actress wife Meghan Markle, he seems to have renounced his devilishly playful side,” Morgan wrote in an opinion column for the Daily Mail. “He also appears to be suffering from a severe infection of ‘wokeness’ … This is the dreadful politically correct disease prevalent among young millennials which turns them into preposterously worthy, do-gooding, virtue-signaling, fun-slayers intent on lecturing the rest of us on how to save the world and how we should lead our lives.”

Plenty of people love Meghan Markle

For every Piers Morgan of the world, there’s someone else claiming that Meghan Markle is ushering in a new era of the monarchy. It’s very progressive that Prince Harry chose to marry a bi-racial divorcee who also happens to be American. And that she has opinions about things and isn’t afraid to share them.

There is a good chance that the Duke of Sussex isn’t thinking about any of that, though. He’s just happy to have found love and created the family he’s always wanted. Just like his brother Prince William did.
