Sorry, ‘Fixer Upper’ Fans: Chip and Joanna Gaines Quietly Pushed Back the Premiere of Their Television Network

The only thing that made it somewhat bearable to live in a Fixer Upper-free world was knowing that Chip and Joanna Gaines were coming back to television. Though their hit HGTV series is done for good, the popular home renovating duo promised plenty of exciting new content on their Magnolia network.

“Whether it’s design & renovation, cooking, gardening, wellness, community, entrepreneurialism or relationships — our hope is when you come to our network it feels like home,” Joanna Gaines wrote of their new endeavor.

But now the couple just quietly pushed back the launch date for Magnolia TV and some fans are not happy about it.

Magnolia Network was supposed to arrive in summer 2020

The new network, which will be replacing DIY as part of the Discovery family, was announced back in April. At the time, Joanna Gaines promised that Magnolia would be coming in summer 2020.

This month we learned that the first confirmed show on the network isn’t what Fixer Upper fans were expecting. Instead of a home renovation or decorating show, Chip and Joanna Gaines announced the premiere of Home on the Road, a docuseries about their favorite band, Johnnyswim.

But that wasn’t the only big news. The Gaineses also covertly slipped in that the premiere for Home on the Road and the entire network won’t be as soon as we thought.

The official press release stated that the show “will premiere as part of the network’s initial slate of programming set to launch in October 2020.”

Why did the Magnolia network premiere get delayed?

Chip and Joanna Gaines aren’t making a big deal about the announcement or apologizing for the delay. That’s because they technically never promised a premiere date to start with — “summer 2020” was always a vague guess.

They’re also not saying why the premiere got pushed back, but we have to assume it has something to do with filming, production, and the massive amount of work that goes into a television network launch. And while we only know one show so far, fans should look forward to catching a glimpse of more previews and sneak peeks as the premiere date draws closer.

What kinds of shows will be on the Magnolia network?

It sounds like the waiting will be worth it. Chip and Joanna Gaines already confirmed that they’ll have plenty of great content on their new network. And while they won’t be recreating Fixer Upper exactly, we will get to see the couple doing what they do best.

Back when they announced the network, the Gaineses said the new Fixer Upper would provide a more “holistic” approach to their lives.

Fans speculate that there will be cameras rolling when Chip and Joanna undertake the massive renovation project in downtown Waco that will eventually become a boutique hotel. It’s logical to think that this renovation process will be turned into a docuseries on the Magnolia network.

Everyone is anxious to see what the Magnolia network has in store. But for now, we all just have to wait a little bit longer!
