‘Southern Charm New Orleans’: Reagan Charleston Battles Birth Complications
Southern Charm New Orleans star Reagan Charleston has been on a serious relationship roller coaster ride in the last couple of years. After getting divorced with Jeff Charleston, she surprised fans and cast members alike by finding new love incredibly quickly. With very little time between her previous marriage and her rekindled romance with Reece Thomas, Reagan decided to tie the knot with Reece, and also announced a pregnancy. Now, Reagan has given birth to baby Reece — but it seems like she’s struggling with some health complications.
The split with Jeff Charleston
After six years of marriage, fans and cast members of Southern Charm New Orleans alike were shocked when Reagan and Jeff Charleston announced their plans to divorce. Jeff Charleston opened up about some of the challenging mental health issues he’d been facing during their stormy marriage.
According to Jeff Charleston, he had been experiencing depression and mood swings, which he chalked up to the head injuries he received during his time in the NFL. “I went through extreme depression and I didn’t know what depression was,” Jeff told Reagan. He went on to say, “It was easier for me to lie and just pretend that we’re good. And we weren’t.”
Reagan made it clear via Twitter that their marriage had been on the rocks for some time. She tweeted, “I didn’t talk about how messed up our marriage was because it was embarrassing and I didn’t know what to do. I wasn’t happy. @jefecharleston wasn’t happy. It was constant volatility and turbulence at home. We were miserable.”
Reece Thomas joins her in the hospital
After announcing her marriage and pregnancy, things were looking good for Reagan Charleston. She was feeling happier than she had in a long time, according to what she had to say of her new relationship with Reece. Apparently, getting back together with her old college sweetheart felt totally natural.
“I’d gone through this really difficult transition in my life after my divorce and I was looking at being 30 years old where my friends were getting married for the first time and having babies and starting families and I was looking at completely starting over. That was terrifying. But then Reece came back into my life and everything fell into place,” the Southern Charm New Orleans star told People.
However, mere hours before Reagan was slated to give birth, Reece Thomas ended up in the hospital with a case of appendicitis. “Less than 24 hours before I give birth — DID NOT think this guy would be in a hospital bed!! Perfect timing for a case of Appendicitis!!! NBD God has a sense of humor — UPDATE! Reece will be in hospital for at least a WEEK!!! But they are going to wheel him up for the delivery,” wrote Reagan in an Instagram post.
Battling postpartum preeclampsia
After delivering a healthy baby daughter named Reece Ellis Thomas, Reagan Charleston and Reece Thomas probably thought their time in the hospital was over. But it wasn’t meant to be. After delivering the baby, the Southern Charm New Orleans star ended up with some health complications of her own.
“I was enjoying what had been an easy delivery [and] recovery and was KNOCKED OUT by postpartum pre-eclampsia,” Reagan captioned an Instagram post. “We have had the hardest, but best week ever. It’s smooth sailing from here, Dad!! Love you both so much.”
Reagan shared another post on Instagram regarding her health challenges, which she captioned, “This is reality: I’m battered, bruised, and one hell of a hot mess… Me & my kid are both in diapers (a postpartum bleeding tip I have to thank the Instagram moms for), and I’m the proud new owner of an at home blood pressure monitor. I’ve been THROUGH IT this past week, but I’ve never been happier… I’ve also never been more grateful for my own momma @tucker_lauren who has been there by my side for every baby birthing moment. 31 years later, and she is still staying up all night with me…Tell your momma you love her today! I am also grateful for my husband @reecethomas504who thinks I’m cute—even in a diaper.”
It’s refreshing to see Reagan being so upfront about the challenges of pregnancy, and keeping it real by showing the less-than-glamorous side of it all.
