‘Spider-Man 3’: Tom Holland Wants This ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Star To Join Him In His Return to the MCU

Spider-Man star Tom Holland’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was up in the air last year. Thankfully, Disney and Sony reached an agreement to keep Spider-Man in the MCU for a third installment of the popular franchise. The studio has not released any details about Spider-Man 3, but Holland reportedly wants this Avengers: Endgame star to join him in his next stand-alone flick.

Which ‘Avengers: Endgame’ stars will join Tom Holland?

Spider-Man has featured some important cameos in the first two movies of the franchise. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) showed up in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) was in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Inside sources previously claimed that Marvel was thinking about teaming Peter Park with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Ms. Marvel, or Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). But it now sounds like Cumberbatch’s schedule is too busy and the studio wants to hold back Ms. Marvel and Carol Danvers for now.

With those superheroes out of the picture, the door is open for someone else to collaborate with Holland. According to We Got This Covered, Holland is urging Marvel to bring Spider-Man and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) together in Spider-Man 3.

Although both characters appeared in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame, they really did not interact much. If Holland has his way, that is going to change in a big way in the near future.

It should be noted that Marvel has not confirmed these reports and a lot could change before Spider-Man 3 starts filming.

When will ‘Spider-Man 3’ get underway?

Because of Spider-Man’s uncertain future in the MCU, Marvel did not announce a release date for Spider-Man 3 this past summer.

But now that the studio has confirmed that fans will see Holland reprise the role in Spider-Man 3 and at least one future MCU film, it is only a matter of time before production gets underway.

Unless something changes, filming for Spider-Man 3 is expected to start up this summer. The movie is slated for release in July of 2021, which does not give the studio much wiggle room.

With the movie set to begin production this summer, we may get confirmation about which character will make an appearance in a few months. Considering how Spider-Man and Ant-Man are set to play big roles in the MCU moving forward, it would be great to see the characters team up.

Everything we know about Tom Holland’s return to the MCU

In addition to a production date, sources say that some of the shooting locations include Iceland, Atlanta, Georgia, New York, New York, and Los Angeles, California. As a note, Thor: The Dark World was also filmed in Iceland.

If the Iceland rumors are true, then it is possible that the main villain in Spider-Man 3 will be Kraven the Hunter. The villain is one of Spider-Man’s foes in the comics and is a world-renown big game hunter.

Villains aside, we also know that Peter Parker will be dealing with some fallout after his identity was exposed at the end of Far From Home. As fans will recall, J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) revealed to the world that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.

With production set to ramp up this summer, Marvel should start casting in the next few months. Hopefully, the casting calls will tell us more about the movie and where the story is going.

Will Rudd appear in ‘Spider-Man 3’?

Rudd, unfortunately, has not commented on the reports surrounding Ant-Man’s cameo in Spider-Man 3. Rudd is fully expected to reprise his role as the superhero in Ant-Man 3, which is reportedly going to hit theaters in 2022.

Rudd only has one movie, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, scheduled to come out in 2020 (and it’s already in post-production). He is credited for a voice cameo in Marvel’s upcoming series, What If…?, but it looks like his schedule is wide open to work on Spider-Man 3 this summer.

While we wait to hear more about Spider-Man 3, the next film in Marvel’s lineup is Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, which is set to open in theaters on May 1.
