‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Star Jake Gyllenhaal Hilariously Disses Ryan Reynolds & ‘Deadpool’

There are some celebrity friendships that everyone knows about, while others are a little more under-the-radar. Over the past two years, we’ve seen a glimpse of the friendship between Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds, though typically, the two are talking about one another at separate press events. Gyllenhaal kept this up on the Spider-Man: Far From Home press tour, much to our delight. Here’s what he said about his friend and his Marvel character.

How did Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal become friends?

We’re not sure exactly how they met, but Reynolds and Gyllenhaal spent a lot of time together during filming and promoting for the 2017 movie Life. In fact, they did the Wired Autocomplete Interview together that year, and people quickly became infatuated with their obvious friendship.

Reynolds and Gyllenhaal laughed through the six-minute video. They made up ridiculous answers to the questions such as saying that Reynolds and Ryan Gosling are twins who tried to eat one another in the womb. They quickly got to making fun of one another, with Gyllenhaal saying that Reynolds wanted to play Deadpool because he was “jobless” and “desperate.”

Their ‘feud’ also involves Hugh Jackman

These fucking assholes said it was a sweater party.

As it turns out, this is really just a bunch of Marvel characters joking around with each other. Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, also got in on the ribbing in Dec. 2018, when he and Gyllenhaal tricked Reynolds into showing up at what he thought was an ugly sweater party in the above garment.

The pranks continued in June 2019, when, for Best Friends Day, the three used their Instagram accounts to post photos with one or the other, joking that the other one was “not pictured.” When the Fox-Disney deal went through, Gyllenhaal told ET, “I used to talk to him a lot until a couple [of] weeks ago, so I wouldn’t really know what’s going on,” of his supposedly deteriorated friendship with Reynolds.

He joked about Reynolds and his popular character while promoting Far From Home

When asked in a recent interview with Buzzfeed, “Who would win in a fight: Mysterio, Wolverine, or Deadpool?” Gyllenhaal replied, “If you’re talking about who is the biggest a**hole, it would be Deadpool. He’d win that fight. That’s basically the only fight there is, isn’t there?”

He continued his diss of Reynolds by commenting on his now puppy-ripped. “This sweater is destroyed. I’m going to send it to Ryan Reynolds,” he switched into a sweet voice, talking to the puppies on his lap. “First, you guys are going to pee and poop all over it, and then we’re going to send it to my friend Ryan.”

Could Gyllenhaal and Reynolds end up in a Marvel movie together?

With Disney’s acquisition of Fox, any future Deadpool movies will be, by extension, a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it sounds as if, for now, they’re going to stay under the Fox banner. Gyllenhaal, on the other hand, is technically part of the MCU, though a part of the shared universe with Sony.

So could the two of them end up on screen together as Mysterio and Deadpool? We’re going to have to say that it’s very unlikely unless Disney plans to bring the current X-Men characters as they are in the currently existing MCU, and Mysterio just happens to be around. Still, we think there will definitely be a chance for the two of them to work together in the future in some capacity.
