Spider-Man Is Likely to Make an Appearance in ‘Venom 2’

Sony and Disney finally struck a deal over Spider-Man. The landmark agreement put an end to a months-long battle between the two production houses, and in doing so, they ensured that Spidey would not be locked out of the MCU or the SUMC. The agreement is a complicated one. A sticking point between the two production houses was whether or not Spidey would be able to appear in multiple cinematic universes. The new deal ensures Peter Parker can make appearances in numerous worlds, and that means he’s likely to make an appearance in Venom 2.

Spider-Man was supposed to make a cameo in Venom.

Before Venom was released, fans were sure that they would be seeing Spider-Man in the film. After all, Spidey is vital to the Venom story. Throughout the movie, fans waited for Spidey’s debut, but it never happened. Disappointment took over, but Venom was still a massive hit.

Allegedly, Disney and Sony’s falling out had a little something to do with Spidey’s absence from Venom. According to Cinema Blend, Sony had every intention of using Spidey in the film in a cameo capacity. The goal was to link the two characters together, but Disney nixed the idea.

Disney seemingly wanted to prevent Sony from using their biggest star, Tom Holland, in additional films, rendering it nearly impossible for the SUMC to thrive. The original cameo was left on the cutting room floor, according to inside sources.

The new deal means Tom Holland will appear in Venom 2

Venom 2 was ready to go forward without Spider-Man making an appearance. Venom was a massive box office hit for the production house, and there was no way that the film wasn’t going to be made just because Spider-Man couldn’t appear. Now, however, the film can go forward with the studio’s biggest star included.

Inside sources insist that the new deal between Sony and Disney ensures Spider-Man can appear in both the MCU and the SUMC. Kevin Feige, in his announcement, noted that Spidey is now the only character that can cross cinematic universes. The statement all but guarantees the web-slinging superhero will show up alongside Sony’s second-biggest star, Tom Hardy.

When will Venom 2 be released?

The new deal between Sony and Disney could not have come at a better time. Venom 2 is slated for an October 2020 release, according to Thrillist. With slightly more than a year left before it’s release, the team behind Venom 2 will have plenty of time to draw Spidey into the storyline.

The level at which Spidey will appear in the film is still an unknown, and fans likely won’t get confirmation of Spider-Man’s appearance in the movie before its release. The new deal, however, all but ensures that he will show up in some capacity.

What we do know is that Tom Hardy will absolutely be reprising his role as Eddie Brock. Michelle Williams is also signed on to return as Anne Weying. The film will also include supervillain and serial killer, Cletus Kassidy. He will be played, once again, by Woody Harrelson.
