‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ premiered in theaters on Dec. 20, 2019
It’s time for the Skywalker Saga to come to an end. After years of waiting, fans finally can figure out what happens next in Rey and Kylo Ren’s story. That story can’t be told without the help of a few other characters, including characters from the original trilogy.
Sure, you can be on the dark side or on the light side. Still, almost everyone is on D-0’s side. This droid is one of the new characters in this Star Wars sequel trilogy, and according to The Sentinel, these robotic characters are part of what makes Star Wars so lovable.
“Lucas wrote a great script for these guys, but Anthony made the droids human,” Puppeteer Brian Herring said. “You had this fussy English butler with a foul-mouthed plumber as his best friend. They set the mold for everything that came after, like BB-8. It’s the human qualities of the droids in the ‘Star Wars’ films that make you believe them and they’re the grounding for the audience to come into those movies.”
There are a few new characters in this film, including Jannah, Zorri Bliss, and the droid, D-0
While The Rise of Skywalker still has characters like Rey, Kylo Ren, Poe, and Finn, there are a few new faces added to this cast. That includes Zorri Bliss, a female scoundrel and former friend of Poe’s. There’s Jannah, who joins the resistance and quickly becomes friends with Finn. However, there is a new droid who quickly became friends with BB-8 with his “hellos” and “no thank yous.”
He’s polite, he has a squeaky wheel, and he’s a new friend of Rey and the Resistance. Fans first met D-0 during Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Since then, he’s rolled his way into viewers’ hearts, becoming a fan-favorite character of the sequel trilogy.
Star Wars fans shared their love for D-0 on social media
Looks like BB-8 has some competition for the cutest droid in the galaxy. Once The Rise of Skywalker premiered in theaters, some fans took to social media, sharing their thoughts on this movie and its new cast of characters.
“If there’s one thing I hope we can all agree on Re: Star Wars it’s that the new lil’ droid D-0 with the squeaky wheel is perfect and must be protected,” one Twitter user said, “[I’ve] been thinkin’ ‘bout his squeaky wheel all day.”
“Overall, I rate 2019 as a good year for Star Wars by the only metric that matters: this year gave me two new droids I would lay down my life for in BD-1 and D-0,” wrote another Twitter user. Disney’s recently released movie, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, is now playing in theaters.
Other Star Wars movies, including The Force Awakens and A New Hope, are available on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+.
