What Are the Latest Rumors Surrounding ‘Star Wars: Episode IX?’

Sure George Lucas made some big mistakes with the Star Wars franchise, but there’s no doubt he created something movie fans love. He’s one of the richest Hollywood movie directors after selling the property to Disney, and now the House of Mouse has taken things to the next level. It took just three movies for Disney to make more money than it paid to Lucas for the rights to all things Star Wars. With the final installment of the latest trilogy coming late in 2019, let’s review the latest Star Wars: Episode IX rumors, as well as the cast of the movie.

Disney typically doesn’t reveal much about its Star Wars movies until it’s ready for the marketing push. So there hasn’t been anything official yet, but fans might already know the official name of the film.

The latest entry into the Star Wars universe will be titled Son of Darkness, according to the Mirror. It’s a reference to a Supreme Leader Snoke line from The Last Jedi.

When does the movie come out?

If you’re intent on seeing the newest Star Wars movie on opening night, then you might want to free up some time around the winter holidays in 2019. Son of Darkness, if that’s truly what the film is titled, is scheduled to come out on December 20, 2019. The other movies also hit theaters in late December.

What are the latest Star Wars: Episode IX rumors?

We’ll know everything about Rey’s storyline and the First Order once Episode IX is finished and finally in theaters. For now, we’ll have to settle for rumors of what we might see, and Looper provides a few doozies.

  • Rey’s parents: Writer and director J.J. Abrams sought a female actress between the ages of 40 and 50 for the film, which indicates we could meet Rey’s mother in Episode IX.
  • Fast forward: Reddit user FOOSLS claims to have seen early storyboards that indicate a five-year jump from The Last Jedi to Episode IX.
  • Spy game: The same Reddit user that spilled the beans about the five-year gap reveals that the First Order has a mole secretly helping the rebellion.
  • He’s baaaaack?: Benicio Del Toro’s character DJ from The Last Jedi double-crossed Finn, but there’s a chance the character returns to be a hero in Episode IX. Del Toro enjoyed his Star Wars experience, and we seem to remember a scoundrel from the original trilogy who was morally ambiguous before he morphed into a hero.

There are many more rumors and huge spoilers out there, but these seem to be the most credible. As we said, we’ll know what’s true and what isn’t once the movie hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
