‘Star Wars: Episode IX’: The 7 Craziest Rumors We’ve Heard So Far

Star Wars: Episode IX is well over a year away, and there’s very little we know for sure about the movie. However, as with the previous two installments, a series of wild rumors are beginning to circulate.

These rumors range from somewhat plausible to absolutely nuts, and all of them should be taken with a grain of salt. But there’s one particular rumor that is so crazy, it just might be true (page 6).

1. Mara Jade will be in it

In April 2018, Star Wars fans went crazy when That Hashtag Show reported that Lucasfilm is casting a character named Mara for Episode IX. That’s significant because in the old Expanded Universe, Mara Jade was the wife of Luke Skywalker.

So could it be that Lucasfilm is actually bringing Mara into canon again in Episode IX? Did Luke actually marry sometime between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens? According to the rumor, Lucasfilm is looking for an actress between 40 and 50 for the role.

2. It will tie all three trilogies together

J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens almost completely ignored the existence of the prequels. However, it sounds like that might not be the case with Episode IX. Back in October, a Reddit user claimed that they ran into Abrams and that the director told him Episode IX will be the film that ties all three trilogies together.

Of course, we still don’t have any verification that this Reddit user didn’t just completely make this quote up. So we classify this as a rumor for now.

3. There will be a time jump

Where in time will we see Finn next? | Lucasfilm

The Last Jedi took place right after The Force Awakens, but it sounds like there might be a time jump between The Last Jedi and Episode IX. This is based on the fact that John Boyega said in an interview, “I can’t wait to start shooting the next and final leg of the franchise. The first step is growing out my hair, so you can wait for the trailer to see why.”

It’s possible Boyega just meant that he’s growing out his hair to be the length that Finn has it in The Last Jedi. But the last part of Boyega’s quote fits with the idea that there’s some level of significance to him growing out his hair. And if Finn has longer hair in Episode IX, this must mean there is a time jump.

4. There will be a new female character named Caro

It looks like we may have a new character joining the gang in Episode IX. This is according to a report from That Hashtag Show, which says that Lucasfilm is looking for an actress between the ages of 18 and 26.

The character is reportedly named Caro, and the report describes her as being a “leader and problem solver, smart with a great sense of humor and a strong will. All this comes to her effortlessly.”

It also describes her as having a “captivating naturalness and ease to her manner.”

5. Yoda will be back and will mentor Rey

Before The Last Jedi, there were rumors that Yoda would be in the movie, and these rumors turned out to be accurate. Now, there are once again rumors that our little green friend will return.

The New York Daily News reported in April 2018 that Lucasfilm is planning to bring back Yoda in Episode IX; the report indicates that he’ll be a mentor to Rey. The report also refers to Yoda as having multiple scenes with Rey, so it sounds like his role in Episode IX could be even more significant than it was in The Last Jedi.

6. Could this be the crazy plot summary?

Rey in The Last Jedi

This rumor is one Kylo Ren and Rey shippers might find intriguing. | Lucasfilm

Recently, a Reddit user posted what they claim is information they’ve learned about Episode IX after having read a storyboard. Normally, it would be easy to dismiss this. But this same user made a similar post about The Last Jedi in December 2015, and they got an impressive number of things right, including the existence of a casino planet and the fact that Kylo Ren kills Snoke.

This user claims that in Episode IX, Rey will have a number of Jedi students. At the end, it will be revealed that one of them is her child with Kylo Ren. When Kylo, who is in love with Rey but did not know they had a child, finds out, he becomes enraged and tries to kill Rey, who is saved at the last minute by Leia.

This user also claims that Leia will be in the movie, but Lucasfilm will recast her. In addition, they claim that the A plot of the film involves the Resistance uniting the planets in the Unknown Regions against the First Order; the B plot involves Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren hunting down Force users.

7. A bunch of other insane “leaks” from Reddit

Another post purporting to reveal some key Episode IX plot points has started making its way around Reddit. This post doesn’t come from a user with a good track record like the previous one, but it’s still fun to take a look at.

According to this leak, it will be revealed in Episode IX that Rey’s parents were Empire soldiers stuck on Jakku after a battle. They traded Rey for a place on a ship; Rey was so upset that she accidentally blasted her parents out of the sky using the Force.

It also claims that Kylo Ren will actually be a “benevolent and rational ruler” who gets stabbed in the back by Hux because he’s too focused on bringing peace to the galaxy. This idea of Kylo actually being a ruler who the galaxy loves was present in the previous “leak,” too. The post goes on to say that Ben Solo ends up being the hero of the trilogy, and he winds up with Rey, with the two effectively balancing one another.

Another completely separate “leak” claims that Leia’s funeral will be held on Naboo and that the movie will end with a lightsaber battle between Kylo Ren and Rey on Mustafar, which concludes with them kissing.
