The Star Wars fandom is one that has become incredibly divisive over the years, with many fans taking to social media to slam various aspects of the movies and extended universe that they don’t particularly agree with. From the actors playing the characters to the storylines and themes, Star Wars fans have taken showrunners to task for nearly everything under the sun. Still, one young up-and-coming actor recently took to Twitter to call out some of the more toxic aspects of Star Wars fandom, and what he said has many fans wanting him to be cast as a fan-favorite franchise character.

‘Star Wars’ fans don’t agree on the sequel trilogy

Star Wars is a franchise that has been around since 1977 when the first film in the legendary series debuted in theaters. Over the years, with the advent of social media platforms, millions of fans have discussed their favorite parts of the galaxy far, far, away with fellow fans. However, some of the dialogue has become very heated, especially in light of the controversial sequel trilogy.

Even some Star Wars actors have retreated from social media to avoid the more negative comments from fans, including Kelly Marie Tran, who had a sizable role in the most controversial Star Wars film to date, The Last Jedi. The actress admitted to being harassed by fans, deciding to leave social media because of the bullying that she received from fans who didn’t like the film. There’s no doubt that social media discourse can get extreme — however, Midnight Mass actor Rahul Kohli recently spoke out, offering up some sage advice that many Star Wars fans can take to heart.

What did Rahul Kohli say about fans not having to love every aspect of ‘Star Wars’?

Over the summer, Rahul Kohli took to Twitter to remark on the state of the Star Wars fandom. In a lengthy yet succinct tweet, Kohli wrote “Star Wars has, and always will be, a restaurant. We all love eating there. We don’t like *every* dish on the menu and that’s okay, you aren’t supposed to. Order what you like, avoid what you don’t and don’t worry about what others are having. And don’t be a dick to the staff.”

His words took toxic fans to task while at the same time speaking to the reasons why so many millions of people love the decades-old franchise. Many praised his outspoken tweet, and after he posted it, some fans took to Reddit to discuss why Kohli would be perfect for one particular Star Wars character.

Fans are pushing for Rahul Kohli to be cast as Ezra

In a recent Reddit thread, Star Wars fans discussed Rahul Kohli’s tweet and why they believe he would be the perfect Ezra Bridger, a character who hasn’t yet received the big-screen treatment but who is vital to Star Wars canon. “Best description of those Star Wars fans I think ever seen,” one fan wrote. Another one praised Kohli, writing “tangentially related, but Rahul Kohli is a great actor and seems like an all around awesome dude.”

“Rahul for Ezra,” a Reddit fan wrote. Several others agreed, with one noting that “he should play live action Ezra,” and one fan questioning whether the tweet from Kohli could be part of his “pitch” to play the beloved character. Kohli himself has teased fans about the possibility of playing Bridger in a live-action movie, as reported by ScreenRant — but with nothing concrete in place, fans will likely continue to speculate over the coming months.
