‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ Already Beat ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in Number of Presale Tickets Sold

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is coming for Avengers: Endgame

The ninth and final installment in the original Star Wars storyline doesn’t hit theaters until December but it’s already getting lots of attention for the number of presale tickets sold.

According to Atom Tickets via Deadline, the release from Disney’s Lucasfilm Ltd. already broke a record when the trailer premiered during the Monday Night Football halftime show on Oct. 21, 2019.

Latest ‘Star Wars’ movie made nearly double in presale tickets

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker reportedly set a new record for the number of presale tickets sold in an hour, a distinction previously held by Avengers: Endgame (Remember every Marvel fan snapping up tickets to see the end of The Infinity Saga ahead of the superhero movie’s initial release in April of 2019?).

It’s hard to imagine any movie topping Avengers: Endgame in sales but Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker did it. At least when it came to presale ticket earnings. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker beat Avengers: Endgame in the number of presale tickets sold by 45%. No small feat. This might be a sign that there’s a (sort of) new franchise in town to overtake other major box office records  Avengers: Endgame set in 2019.

New characters in ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’

A new film in the franchise means new Star Wars characters. Actor Billy Dee Williams will play Lando Calrissian, an old friend of Hans Solo’s in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. While he’s played the character before, he’s a new addition to this Star Wars trilogy.

Another new face is bounty hunter Zorri Bliss portrayed by Keri Russell who is known for her role in The Americans. Others include Allegiant General Pryde (Richard E. Grant), Jannah (Naomi Ackie), and D-0.
