‘Star Wars’ Signals: Last ‘Rogue One’ Trailer Arriving With ‘Doctor Strange’
Welcome to our weekly Star Wars roundup! With Disney ramping up the franchise on all cylinders, there’s tons of exciting stuff in the way of news, rumors, and clips. We’ve picked out the best Star Wars stories the internet has to offer, bringing you everything you need to know about the world’s favorite sci-fi series.
1. Star Wars Rebels returns
The Season 2 finale of Star Wars Rebels left us with all sorts of unanswered questions. In the lead-up to Season 3, we’ve seen teases at a fair share of answers, along with the re-introduction of the once de-canonized villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn.
The Season 3 premiere aired last Saturday, and along with it came a whole new story. In it, we saw young Jedi, Ezra Bridger beginning to fall toward the sway of the Dark Side of the Force, Thrawn plotting the downfall of the fledgling Rebellion, and tons more. You can read our full recap of the episode here, and stay tuned for more as the third season continues on.
2. We now know when the final Rogue One trailer will arrive
Lucasfilm’s marketing campaign for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been markedly quieter than the one we saw for Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year. This is likely the result of more measured box office expectations from the studio. Still, this has done little to slow our enthusiasm for the first Anthology movie in the Star Wars saga. The hype will continue on with the release of the final trailer, set to debut alongside the release of Marvel’s Doctor Strange on November 4.
Bringing in one last trailer in the month before Rogue One‘s release is an interesting choice for Lucasfilm, but ultimately, you can’t go wrong in hitching your hype wagon to the already-popular Marvel Cinematic Universe.
3. Fan-film shows us a different side of the Empire
There’s been no shortage of incredible fan-films set within the Star Wars universe in recent years. With Lucasfilm’s willingness to allow their existence sans any firmly-worded cease and desists, it’s led to a whole host of creative angles. The most recent one comes to us in the form of “Jakku: First Wave,” a three and a half minute short that puts us inside the helmet of three Imperial Stormtroopers before the Battle of Jakku. In it, we get a sense for the humanity of the often faceless foot-soldiers of the Empire, with one describing the friends and family he lost when the Rebellion blew up the second Death Star.
4. ABC head teases at live-action Star Wars TV series in distant future
Disney’s Star Wars franchise has branched out into virtually every corner of entertainment, with one notable exception: live-action television. Distant rumors of potential shows have been floating around for years now. Unfortunately, none have come to fruition. Lucasfilm’s focus is somewhat divided, between managing their various planned films, and a stable of merchandise, comics, novels, and more.
That’s not to say it’ll never happen though, with ABC head, Ben Sherwood hinting that “somewhere we hope in a galaxy not too far away there will be a television show that will air on one of our networks.” He goes on to caution tempered expectations, but even if it’s years down the line, it’ll be exciting nonetheless to get a full-on live-action Star Wars story on TV.
