‘The Mandalorian’: Who is Baby Yoda?

The green creature whom everyone is talking about came at the very end of the first chapter of Disney+’s flagship series, The Mandalorian.

He is not Yoda as a baby, so the affectionate name fans are calling him is not entirely accurate. In the series, Mando (Pedro Pascal) refers to Baby Yoda as “the Kid” or “the Child.” The creature is currently 50 years old on the show, according to Greef Carga (Carl Weathers).

The main character, Mando, found and retrieved Baby Yoda. He then handed the creature over to the Client (Werner Herzog). However, in the short time that Mando hung out with the Kid, he became attached and ended up stealing him back.

Baby Yoda has become Mando’s adorable sidekick at this point in the series. And to fans’ excitement, Baby Yoda has Jedi powers. He levitated a Mudhorn to save Mando in chapter 2 of the flagship series.

Oscar Isaac’s reaction to Baby Yoda is shocking

Isaac plays Poe in the upcoming movie, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Poe is an X-wing fighter pilot for the Resistance whom fans met in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Poe unknowingly brings renegade stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega) and Jakku scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley) into battle against the First Order.

Poe already has a sidekick, BB-8, so it comes as no surprise that when asked to pick between the two, he chose his trusty droid.

“I’m not into the Baby Yoda thing,” Isaac told news.com.au. “Kill it! Stamp it! Smoosh it!”

That reaction may be a little too drastic for some Star Wars fans, but BB-8 does always come to Poe’s rescue at the perfect time, so we can’t blame him.

John Boyega’s reaction to the Child is more affectionate

Boyega plays Finn in the upcoming Star Wars film. When asked what Poe and Finn are to each other in the movie, Boyega gave the inside scoop.

“They’re best mates, aren’t they?” Boyega told news.com.au. “They’re best friends, brothers now, especially in [Episode] IX. Between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, they’ve spent a lot of time with each other.”

The two are close friends off-screen, as well. However, they do not share the same sentiments about Baby Yoda.

“Really?!” Boyega responded when his co-star talked about killing the little green creature. “He’s so cute.”

While the two disagree over Baby Yoda, they get along in almost every other aspect. They work grueling hours together on set and are happy to attend the movie premiere as a pair.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be in theaters Dec. 20, 2019.
