Stephen King Trolls Politician Steve King Upon His Election Loss
From The Outsider to The Shining, Stephen King has created some of the most iconic horror stories in modern literature. But, the famed author is also a vocal political critic, who often shares his opinions with fans via Twitter. Just recently, King trolled Iowa Congressman Steve King about his election loss, and fans thought it was brilliant.
Who is Steve King?
Since 2003, Congressman Steve King has represented Iowa’s fifth congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Before becoming a politician, Rep. King ran a successful construction company in the state for years.
He actually started his political career in 1997 when he was elected to the Iowa State Senate. But Rep. King then went on to win a congressional seat, serving nine terms in the House. In the 2020 Iowa Republican primary elections, King lost to Randy Feenstra, thus ending his consecutive congressional run.
But the congressman’s legislative tenure hasn’t come without controversy. In 2015, he told MSNBC that he believed Islam was “incompatible” with the American way of life. And in a 2019 interview with the New York Times, he questioned why terms like “white nationalism” and “white supremacy” are considered offensive.
Stephen King Trolls Steve King
Stephen King is known for being a master of horror. But he also keeps his Twitter followers entertained with witty political quips. And because his name is so clearly similar to Congressman, Steve King, the author has been vocal about clarifying they aren’t the same person.
During the 2018 elections, Stephen King took to Twitter to urge fans not to vote for Rep. King. “Iowans, for personal reasons I hope you’ll vote Steve King out,” the horror guru tweeted. “I’m tired of being confused with this racist dumbbell.”
Then, in 2019, when Rep. King made controversial comments about white supremacy, the author once again chimed in with a clarification. “Let’s get 1 thing straight,” he wrote in a tweet. “I’m not THAT Steve King.”
And just recently, in light of the congressman’s primary election loss, the author once again took to Twitter. In a brilliant troll, he declared himself the last King standing.
“Iowa Steve King lost,” he tweeted. “I am the last Steve King standing. (Takes a bow.)”
Stephen King’s other hilarious tweets
Aside from his political commentary, King has kept his Twitter followers laughing with hilarious posts over the years. In January, the author made a punny joke about former Vice President Joe Biden that he knew was cheesy, which made it even funnier.
“Joe’s just Biden his time,” King joked on Twitter. “Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, come back tomorrow night. All new material.”
In 2019, when King turned 70, he posted a quick joke about the game show he started avidly watching. “I didn’t use to watch THE PRICE IS RIGHT,” he wrote in a tweet, “but then I turned 70 and discovered it’s the law.”
