Steve Carell Is Gunning For Another Super Bowl Commercial
What do Lil John, Cardi B, and Steve Carell all have in common? Absolutely nothing, except all three celebs starred in a Pepsi commercial that aired during the Super Bowl this year.
The ad was hilarious, and a huge success. We don’t get to see any of these stars in commercials very frequently, and no one would have guessed how well they worked together on screen.
Carell seemed to enjoy the experience. And now, a recent clip from Ellen DeGeneres’ Instagram has fans wondering if Carell wants to repeat the experience.
The Pepsi commercial poked fun at the brand
Everyone has had that moment. You’re at a restaurant, and order a certain type of soda. The waiter or waitress replies: “Is Pepsi okay?”
Well, Pepsi is tired of being just “okay.” In their Super Bowl commercial, they poked fun at the common expression, and fans loved it.
The commercial starts with the scene we all know: A woman in a diner orders a Coke. The waiter begins to ask if Pepsi is okay. That’s when Carell pops up from the booth behind them. “Just okay?” he asks.
Carell goes on to extol all the wonderful things that make Pepsi more than just okay. Then the camera cuts to Lil John, singing “Okay” in his famous raspy style. Cardi B strolls in, and trills the same word, rolling her tongue the way only she can.
At the end of the commercial, Carell hilariously tries to imitate the two.
Steve Carell recently appeared on ‘Ellen’
When Carell was on Ellen earlier this week, DeGeneres had the opportunity to grill him on a game show style segment of her show called Burning Questions. She posted a clip from the segment on Instagram, where we can see her ask Carell what he would bring to a party at her house.
His answer is “dip,” which of course leads DeGeneres to ask what kind of chips would he bring to go with them. At first, Carell avoids saying the brand name of a certain ridged potato chip, but when DeGeneres mentions that saying the name on-air might get him another Super Bowl commercial, Carell shouts “Ruffles!”
It was all fun and games, but it seems like Carell might be interested in another Super Bowl commercial. It’s probably a fun way for him to make extra cash. Not that he needs it: Carell reportedly has a net worth of $50 million.
What else is Steve Carell up to?
Carell may not have time for another commercial this year. He’s reportedly working on a new show for Netflix. Space Force is created by Greg Daniels, who also created The Office. Carell will be the star, and he’s also producing. He’s netting as much as $1 million per episode, a record-setting salary.
He also may be in a The Office reunion, although he has said a reboot is out of the question. Carell doesn’t think the off-color jokes that the show was famous for when it aired would fly with a post #MeToo audience.
There is a new The Office podcast out for fans to enjoy in lieu of a reboot. Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, also known as Pam and Angela, will be watching old episodes of the show together and discussing them for their new podcast: Office Ladies.
Even though we may not be able to see Carell in a The Office reboot, fans can still watch him in old episodes of the show on Netflix for now. And stay tuned this February to see if he pops up in a commercial for Ruffles.
